Welcome to Future Worlds: Landscapes!

Future Worlds: Landscapes is a modular terrain system which can be used with any gaming system, designed to look great on the table and printed by you using a 3D printer for a fraction of the cost of traditional scenery.
I've been wargaming since my teens and one thing thing that has remained true over the intervening years is that good scenery is always a pleasure to game on. While it's possible to use books as hills and various tinned and bottled grocery items as terrain and cover, there's magic in well presented scenery that draws even non-gamers.

Whilst there are dozens of companies producing modular dungeons, scatter terrain, buildings and their various takes on them, one thing that has been persistently missing from the marketplace is the terrain itself - hills, valleys, rivers and so on. While there have been some products on the market they've been rather limited in their flexibility and have usually been fiendishly expensive. That's left wargamers to pretty much make their terrain themselves which is fine if you've got both the time needed AND the space to carefully store all the different and varied bits of terrain you want. Unfortunately few people have the amount of space they really need for that. What that means is that generally we see the same tired old three or four pieces brought out for game after game.
Well now you can have a continually new parade of terrain to game over - using your 3D printer to create the terrain you want!
With the Landscapes modular design you can quickly change your scenery to match your game. Want some gentle rolling hills? One big one? Want some cliffs on it? What about two lines of trenches facing each other over a valley turned into a swampy quagmire? You can have all of these and pretty much any terrain layout you want.
Landscapes is a modular system which allows you to build the terrain you want using 4" x 4" tiles using the OpenLOCK locking system. Each set comprises various .STL file which can be printed on any 3D printer and because these tiles are printed by you, you can print the ones you need or want. If all you want is is cliff faces for a craggy ravine or desert arroyo scenario then just print those. If you're after some trench warfare, just print trenches and some one inch hill sections to put them in. Or put them at the top of cliff sections... or halfway up a mountain.

You can literally print yourself tables of custom terrain which can be endlessly rearranged and which can then be packed up into a much smaller space than traditional scenery - and because the sections are printed from PLA or ABS (or filament of your choice) they are far less likely to be damaged by storage or rough use.
Some advantages of Landscapes scenery over traditional scenery:
- Flexible - scale up or down, make simple or complex terrain features
- Durable - made from plastic it's far tougher than traditional scenery techniques
- Ease of storage - break down your terrain when you're not using it
- Inexpensive - print sections for between 25-50c a piece (based on $25/roll of filament).
Below are the various .STL models which can to purchased through the various pledges. The various sets are designed to be interchangeable to give maximum flexibility:
- All 1" Hill Sets are interchangeable
- All 2" Hill Sets are interchangeable
- Any 1"-2" Hill Adaptor Set can be used with any 1" and 2" Hill Set
- Any 1" Hill Set and the 1" Cliff set can be used together by using the 1" Hill-Cliff Adaptors
- Any 2" Hill Set and the 2" Cliff Set can be used together by using the 2" Hill-Cliff Adaptors
- Any Hill or Cliff Set can be used with the Trench, River and Swamp Sets.
- The Bridge Set and the Add-Ons can be used with any 2" Hill or the 2" Cliff Set

Risks and challenges
This project is for .STL files for 3D printers. As such there is no physical product and so the risks in manufacturing a product do not exist. The majority of the files exist and have been print tested which means that most of the files are ready for distribution. The largest challenge is ensuring that the files which are not yet print ready are completed within the time frame given. I have had previous experience with the design and delivery of this type of project and using that experience I have set a time line which is, if anything, conservative to ensure that people are not disappointed.
Delivery will be managed through DriveThru RPG, the internet's largest downloadable site for RPGs and Wargames. They have well established systems and a proven track record for fuss free delivery.
