Here is a tidbit about the counter set. The classic Triplanetary has four faction colors with slightly different counter mixes to fit particular roles: red/white/blue (Space Patrol), blue (civilian), red (Evil Empire), and black (space pirates). We are keeping all those, of course, and adding a few more counters, especially for the civilian ships, because I ran out of counters quickly in big trading/prospecting games. But we are also adding eight more “factions” of one color each; each one gets a single corvette.
Because during the development process, I repeatedly got comments from fans who really liked the racing scenarios, and mentioned that they had often played them with a LOT of players. And if you’re just managing one ship each, even a big game goes quickly. So . . . here are counters so everyone in a big race can have a different color and instantly spot it on the map.
You could set up a big Prospecting game, too (though the die rolls for prospecting would make each turn take longer) just by playing the corvettes as freighters.
