I am delighted by the continuing level of response. This implies that you are telling your friends about the project – thank you!

Here is a tidbit about the counter set. The classic Triplanetary has four faction colors with slightly different counter mixes to fit particular roles: red/white/blue (Space Patrol), blue (civilian), red (Evil Empire), and black (space pirates). We are keeping all those, of course, and adding a few more counters, especially for the civilian ships, because I ran out of counters quickly in big trading/prospecting games. But we are also adding eight more “factions” of one color each; each one gets a single corvette.

Because during the development process, I repeatedly got comments from fans who really liked the racing scenarios, and mentioned that they had often played them with a LOT of players. And if you’re just managing one ship each, even a big game goes quickly. So . . . here are counters so everyone in a big race can have a different color and instantly spot it on the map.

You could set up a big Prospecting game, too (though the die rolls for prospecting would make each turn take longer) just by playing the corvettes as freighters.

Thank you for the racing counters. We ended up using counters out of other games to do the races. Please make the art work unique on the racing tokens, so they are easier to ID at a glance.

Awww. Darn. I was hoping for stretch goals for maps of all stellar systems out to 30 LY.

But seriously, it might be neat to get Winchell Chung to update his supplementry counter set to follow the new edition format.

(Yes, I just pledged. Two copies!)

@Tom Vallejos: Thanks for the suggestions, but we don't have any stretch goals planned. We learned our lessons from unplanned stretch goals with Ogre, and this was planned with a specific game in mind; the classic Triplanetary experience, with some small upgrades, but keeping the retro feel.

I really like the idea of the additional coloured corvettes. Great for when you are having several people engaged in a racing scenario.

More counters are a great idea.

I have two suggestions for stretch goals
      1. Spaceship & other object miniatures. They could be plastic or metal.
      2. Solar system map construction guidelines for players to build their own maps.

Really looking forward to getting this one! I haven't played Triplanetary since I was 10 years old back in '83. One of the teachers at school had it. Then we moved. This is going to be tons of fun.

I love it! Those additional corvettes will help make this a great party game.

I have to wonder what additional scenarios could be put together with the new counter mixes.

Steve, I love the fact that you are reprinting these games from the past that have been lost in time. As you can see, there is still much demand for these types of games, despite modern advances in game mechanics. I’m curious, are there any other old games you’re thinking about reprinting? Perhaps a ‘survey’ is in order. Lastly, have you considered reprinting your old ‘Necromancer’ game? I had great fun with that one, but always wished for real, die cut, counters!

See, a nice stretch goal would have been an extra counter sheet with more warships for the blue and black factions to make them match the counter mix of the r/w/b and red factions, and a set of freighters for the off-color factions for the prospecting scenario.
