New Ogre Miniatures Set 2 Test Shots, And Ogrezine!

Many of you have probably seen it already, but in case you haven't we, recently launched our Ogrezine project on Kickstarter. This is a small project, funding a digital publication dedicated to Ogre. We have an sample article on our site, with a scenario for your Ogre game. We'll also be taking fan submissions, and will have the writing guidelines posted soon for that. For those of you that are interested in some bonus miniatures, we also have a tier with some sets of Ogre Miniatures Set 1. They will, of course, ship well after the Ogre Miniatures Set 1 Kickstarter rewards.

Some fans may have seen a couple of teases on social media featuring test shots of Ogre Miniatures Set 2. These are some early prototypes of sculpts for the next set (as you can tell from the random plastic colors), but gives us an idea of what the final model will look like. Not final colors or models.

The Fencer A, and since it wouldn't be complete without the B . . .

Our eagle eyed fans might see the indentations on this GEV. Confirmed, they hold infantry!

Holy cow, that's a lot of plastic! We'll share more details about Set 2 as it gets closer; we don't have dates to share or anything of that nature, but we'll update this project when there is more news.

Stay tuned for more updates as we get them!

@David A. Hannigan: We'll have more pictures when we have new test shots most likely. -HS

I would like a btter pic of the MK IV.

I sure would like to see a reproduction of the old Martian Metals Ogre Mk V (and possibly the original Mk IV design?). The old model of Mk V had some neat angular differences in the hull, and the open missile racks were really "old school"! Are these a possibility for the future? It might be neat to have a couple different models on the map board.

Love the Fencers, the Mk IV, and would definitely like to see a pack of these, with Mk I and II Ogres, and a Doppelsoldner. Perhaps an option in the future would be to sell an entire boxed set of Ogres?!? (All versions)

@Andrew Romaniuk: These colors are not final.

      @Dan Long: Yes. -HS

Just to explicitly verify, but Ogre Miniatures Set 2 is going to be another kickstarter, yes?

I can do without the wacky colours, ... but I gotta say, the models look GREAT! I love these, and I can't wait for Set 2 (and beyond!) as well. I think someone has to post some shots of the Mk I and Mk II! Nice work, guys, keep it up! Hoping that the entire stable will be produced some day! Very nice.

@Allen - A set of Ogres & minis in a deeper Vatican Purple would be appropriate and much appreciated! I'd like such a set.

Well, when you get around to Ogre set 2, I hope that there is a pledge level that includes a set of each in all the colors from set 1 (blue, red, green, gitd)

@Randall Porter: You can find painting info from Set 1 on Too Mini, the blog by our painter, Ben Williams. https://toomini.wordpress.com/2017/07/18/painting-an-ogre-the-easy-way/

But these miniatures are not final material so testing spray primer won't be too useful. However, based on how Set 1 takes to primers, shouldn't be an issue. -HS

I think my daughter would be all over those purple superheavies.

Has anyone done any test with spray primers to see it there are any problems like with the Reaper Bones? Will we be able to use any spray paint to prime them or something like Army Paints to do the job?

@Philip, yes, I know the design has been set for years, it's just something that always looked 'off' to my eyes. Still -- take my money, I'm all-in for that KS campaign whenever you guys fire it up.

@Sean Malloy of Phoenix Rising - I have held the minis. The light color is playing a trick on your eyes.

@Jeff "Great Cane of Doom"™ Saxton - The Superheavy is locked. This is based on the previous works, and we have no plans to deviate or modify the design.

Fencer. So hard to find at a sensible price. Shut up and take my money.

I'm not sure whether it's just the pastel coloration, but the details on the LGEV and the GEV transport look a little 'soft'. I suspect it's the pale blue material, though, because the darker material shows much better detail. I think it's just that the reduced contrast with the pale blue material is making the details disappear. I wonder how the samples would look with a pinwash to accent the lines in the models.

@Philip - thank you for clarifying what you meant by "Test Shots" - I was confused previously.

I agree with Jeff that the SHvy looks a little "flat". Also, the embossed gun mantlets on the metal Shvy look better to my eyes.

I am still quite happy with the look of these models.

Note: Nothing is tooled. These are not test shots from a steel mold. These are the very first tests of the CAD files. We do not plan to invest in the steel at this time.

    19. Jeff "Great Cane of Doom"™ Saxton on August 10

It's just my quirk, but I always felt the Superheavy looked a little 'squished' in terms of overall height. Otherwise, I can see I need to start saving more money right now.

Those are some tasty looking pastel colors. *om nom* This is why nobody makes models out out lead anymore.

That's a neat idea having power armor riding on top.

@das Grau Geist: Thanks for the feedback. Nothing you see is final. Everything here is very early in the process, and we'll let you know when we can reveal more of the plan, most likely closer to the Kickstarter. -HS

Those look good. But I do have some questions:

You say these are test shots, so you've already tooled the entire Set 2?

Earlier, I had suggested including a single Mobile CP as part of Set 2 - will that be included so that Set 2 stands on its own?

Also, if you haven't finalized tooling, consider to design the tools so that Set 2 is done like this:
      * 1 pop Fencer A/B, Ogre Mk. IV, & MCP
      * 2 pops SHvy, MHwz, GEV-PC, LGEV, & LT

    24. Steve Jackson Games 11-time creator on August 10

@David Crowell: I honestly don't know if that's in the plans right now, but those were infantry from Set 1 we used to test. -HS

    25. David Crowell on August 10

Too soon to tell, I know, but is this set likely to contain infantry, with or without infantry bases, to go with GEV-PCs?

And it's fun to see these in the bright candy colors.
