5,512 backers pledged $923,680 to help bring this project to life.

Over 2,000 Ogres in the Wild!

As of this morning we have completed shipping to Washington, Nevada, Hawaii, Rhode Island, Vermont, Delaware, DC, Maine, New Hampshire, and Connecticut. Additionally, Oregon and California are each down to a handful of orders being held for answers to questions.

If you are in any of the above states and do not have your games or a tracking number please contact us -- -- and we'll figure out what went wrong.

Thank you, everyone, for your patience as we assemble packages and ship games and swag out. I'm sure that once your game arrives you will understand why this entire project -- from the design to manufacturing to shipping -- has been a major challenge. There's enough raw materials and design/production involve in the Ogre Designer's Edition to equal five, six, or even ten average-sized games. But this one box is what you might call an "ogre" of a game.

I hope those of you who have your games are loving them. And to everyone else, please continue to be patient as we get the games shipped.

@Philip - The delay doesn't really bother me. It was the "technically" answer that rubbed me the wrong way. Stuff happens, just be straight about it.

I got mine in Sandy Eggo as well; at first I was confused about the countersheets strapped to the outside of the box, until I got it opened and saw that there would have been no way to get it closed with everything inside as unpunched counter sheets.

I got mine on Friday here in San Diego, despite seeing the pictures ahead of time it's still impressive how big the box is, and how much time is required to punch everything out XD

@Dan Spezzano Kickstarter really is not a pre-ordering system. I like to think of Kickstarter projects as very high risk investments for completely disposable income, where the projects I'm backing qualify more for "passion" than "experience." In this case, SJG's passion to produce something extraordinary outstripped their experience.

Which is precisely why SJG brought Ogre to KS!

I'd never even heard of Car Wars until the Ogre KS, but I'm likely to back a Car Wars KS from SJG just to see how much further they can (and are willing) to push the envelope.

@Dan Spezzano - I've backed over 100 projects and shipping is almost always a nightmare. It's just part of how things go. I try not to think about those projects I've backed beyond "what's the latest news?" since any more thought than that isn't productive.

    9. Duke Ritenhouse on November 10, 2013

Woo-hoo for Nevada! Quick Ogre shipment is suddenly a perk of living here.

Received last week. Thanks, guys. Watching the FedEx guy trudge to the door was pure comedy.

@Dan Spezzano, Out of 189 projects I have backed at this point, I have received 87 rewards and have 50 that are past due. And I know that are large number of the ones I have received were also late. Pretty much all of the extremely successful projects have been late shippers. Even people that plan adequately for what they think will happen are overwhelmed by the extra requirements of fulfilling stretch goals and having lots of backers.

Most backers on projects are pretty patient with the creators as long as there is adequate communication and real progress is happening.

Launch Party West at Game Kastle in Fremont California was a great success. Thank you Steve Jackson Games for the very cool swag. And thanks Game Kastle for the venue and Steve for hosting.

Still alive here. Concerned readers have asked "Are you out of your mind. Steve? Haven't you heard of gloves?" The answer to the first question is yes. As to gloves: sure, I have both heavy work gloves and nitriles, but surgeons train a LONG time to do delicate work with gloves on. I can't pick up anything smaller than, say, a 1 x 1 LEGO block w/o gloves Also, dirty hands are easy to wash and dirty gloves less so.

I got good help today and moving continues. Lots of volunteers from Red Cross, LDS, Home Depot, and others are in the area. Also, two of my local LEGO friends!

I'm told that more states were completed Friday, so I expect Monday you'll see an updated pin-map. I am hugely appreciative of the people here who are keeping the Ogre shipping, and everything else, running without me. That's the way it is supposed to work, but YAY that it is actually working.

For some reason I didn't have the option to have it held at a local office. I'll hopefully have mine on Monday.

    15. Jim Jensen on November 9, 2013

This might be a useful hint. I received the notice saying that it would show up Monday. I wasn't sure if I'd be around, so I had it go to the local office. This afternoon, I get the "come pick it up" email. 48 hours before I was expecting it, it's now in my hands. And it's more glorious then I ever imagined. I'm guessing that it's quicker because they don't have to give the box a tour of the county before they get to my house.

@Dan -- I've seen enough hired guns screw up Kickstarter shipping to have my doubts that *anyone* can adequately deal with a single spurt of several thousand customized packages simultaneously running through a hundred customs systems. To name a few biggies, I've seen problems with Game Salute, PSI, CoolStuffInc, and Amazon.
There was one project where essentially all the international packages ran through Sweden, and the project creator couldn't track down whether that error was due to PSI or FedEx.

    17. Dan Spezzano on November 9, 2013

@Phil I don't want any special treatment but thanks for offering. I'm just commenting on my experience. I've backed what I consider a good amount of KS. It seems that most companies don't plan for the shipping portion of their project with the funds they take it. If someone was smart they would start a fulfillment company that deals solely with KS projects, they would probably make a mint. Anyway when it gets here it get here.

@Poi - Nothing to worry about. We know Pegasus received the container and they are professionals. Is rather let them work than constantly mail "are we there yet?" and distract them. We will notify everyone as soon as Pegasus reports that the games have shipped.

    19. Poi on November 9, 2013

No news at all from Pegasus? That's a little worrying for us Euro backers.

Can you confirm that the Euro shipment has gone to them, or is it still in Austin? (Or did it go direct to Pegasus from China?)

Just as an addendum - I know you're all very busy, and I don't want to seem disgruntled - I'm just excited, and by my count of the pledge levels, there's only 190 backers in Europe for the game box and up, roughly, not counting any of the custom countersheet levels or the like.

    24. Dave Doolin on November 9, 2013

      The dice are beautiful.

Sadly, I didn't order extra dice, nor variants.

Sadder still, I can't seem to find out if these will be available for order in the future.

Hopefully once the dust settles, these will be available for ordering!

    25. muskets on November 9, 2013

Yeah, it's good to know Pegasus will be telling SJG when they're done shipping... but have they started yet? I haven't heard anyone posting from Europe who has their stuff, and I'm getting envious of the backers Stateside!

    26. Alan Schirtzinger on November 9, 2013

I'm crossing my fingers that my game will get shipped and arrive by Saturday, as I have a OGREfest planned for Saturday evening and Sunday. But, if not, we'll play other stuff.

    27. Keith Carter on November 9, 2013

How about splitting the swag shipments from the OGRE shipments and focusing on getting the OGRE boxes out first?

To get a swag box shipped it must be pulled, proofed for accuracy, packed, labeled, and recorded.

Shipping an OGRE box is much faster as it is already pre-packed. If two OGRE boxes could be processed in the time it takes to takes to pull, proof, and pack a single swag box then it would triple OGRE boxes shipped per day to just ship OGRE boxes.

At the rate the first line has been shipping since Oct. 21 (1800 in the first 13 days of shipping for 138/day), this approach could allow a little over 400 OGRE boxes to go out a day and if the second line shipped at 2/3 the first line speed then almost 700 OGRE boxes could go out a day. That would knock out the remainder of the OGRE boxes by the end of next week.

The OGRE box will keep kickstarter customers plenty busy till their swag arrive later. It is the OGRE box that the street date of Dec. 6 threatens to make available before all kickstarter customers have theirs. This approach would avoid that.

    28. Ron Olszewski on November 9, 2013

I'm sorry but I'm going to call a spade a spade. The people complaining about not being it a month before retailers are ridiculous. And for the record no, I have no shipping notice yet.

You do understand that SJG is made up of real human beings, right? Human beings who have obviously doing the best to give us the best game possible. And one human being who just lost his home and yet is here giving you updates on your precious game. Go look up empathy and compassion in the dictionary and ruminate on the definitions for awhile.

    29. Philip Reed
      on November 9, 2013

@Bike Monet - Yes, many others are getting their games and shipping notices. If we look at the number of backers who post here and compare that to the total number of supporters then we see only a small percentage of backers are posting.

Games are shipping. And will keep shipping until we are done.

    30. Philip Reed
      on November 9, 2013

@Rafael Rosa - Please don't feel you must stop commenting here. Part of the fun of the project is the interaction, and I would hate for you to think we don't want to hear from everyone.

I am simply trying to be open with all of you and keep you updated. If that sometimes includes telling supporters things they don't want to hear then I do it. My job is to get Steve's game made and I'm not going to stop this close to the games being shipped to everyone. And that includes retailers.

I'm in NY and received my tracking number a few days ago. According to FedEx I should have Ogre in my hands early next week. I imagine that there are other NY, NJ, and PA backers soon to be receiving their monstrosities. I'm excited to try to carry this thing up my stairs. Does the box recommend using a piano pulley or only a buddy? ;-)

Philip - I tried to choose my words carefully but I guess I did a poor job. I am in full support of you guys and meant my post to reflect that. I'm going to stop commenting at this point as the last thing I want to do is add anxiety to the situation. I will continue to wait patiently and I mean that sincerely.

    33. Carl Taylor on November 9, 2013

DropDeadCriminal, go look at all the other stretch goal rewards we are all going to get and then think how small that Car Wars game will be if everyone shared your attitude. Oh wait the $700,000 reward was a Car Wars Kickstarter so there might not have been any new Car Wars game at all and if Ogre DE had tanked, pardon the pun, that's just what might have happened.

    34. Philip Reed
      on November 9, 2013

@Jerry Han - Thank you, Jerry! I really appreciate your understanding.

    35. Philip Reed
      on November 9, 2013

@DropDeadCriminal, Daniel Schulz, Rafael Rosa , and Dan Spezzano - I am sorry, but we cannot punish our business partners because the shipping process is larger and more time-consuming than any of us would like. The games are taking huge amounts of warehouse space at PSI and we need to clear that space to make room for profitable games. And distributors need to turn the games quickly so that retailers can capture some sales before the year ends.

Please contact me immediately -- -- with your Kickstarter backer number and info. If you are truly bothered by this situation I will try (try, but cannot guarantee at this point since shipping is happening) to hold your games and issue refunds. I am traveling today and will be slower to respond to mail than normal. But I will respond as quickly as I can.

I've waited this long to get the Ogre game of my dreams. If it takes another couple of weeks, so be it. Sure, it's disappointing, but, in the grand scheme of things, wondering whether you get your game ahead of somebody else is a pretty small deal. Be happy that this exists at all, and that it is awesome. Thank you again everybody at SJG for doing this and for dealing with the unexpected, and I hope you recover from the floods AND you recover your sanity once this is all over.

    37. Steve Jackson Games 12-time creator on November 8, 2013

For those who have asked (and thank you) - I'm still alive and well. And my immune system, so far, has held up too. It's not pre-compromised or anything, but I've been working with my hands for days, and they're getting pretty beat up, and the mud is filthy. So I wash them a lot, and every night I really boil them, especially any counds, and put on antibiotic cream. If you're ever in this situation, I advise you to GO BACK IN TIME AND CHANGE THINGS.

In other news, the City of Austin advises me that they wish to buy my home and bulldoze it. That idea has its merits. However, unless the flood zone is declared a federal disaster area, there won't be nearly enough $$ to buy out all the homes in the area - and there are a lot of homes closer to the creek that aren't on their buyout list. Apparently they are still relying on an old hydrology report - which has been invalidated by the facts on the ground. The damp, soggy ground. So if you happen to be acquainted with the President, tell him "Federal disaster area!"
Now for the status report about the shipping, which I know is what you really wanted . . . Eric told me this afternoon that the second shipping line was indeed increasing their throughput, but we don't know yet what it will settle down to. Not twice as much, depend on that, but more than just one.

I have my Kickstarter Edition and the game stores near me don't have it and a bunch of online sites still have it listed as "Pre-order." If we all didn't pitch in we wouldn't have the version we are getting today. Delays happen, yes it sucks, yes some may get theirs after it is in stores, that happens when a game is looking for $20,000 and they end up with over $900,000 in support. Just because this campaign brought in a pile of cash, doesn't mean they have less to give us. Logistics can kick you in the face no matter the project.

I got my copies with all the a-la-carte items much earlier than I was expecting. I am more than impressed with how the game turned out and super happy I was able to kickstart this grand piece of gaming history. If you are not happy keep it between you and SJG don't whine here, none of us can do anything about it.

Rafael Rosa on November 8, 2013

Criminal - I agree that it wasn't a great answer from Philip but when I think about the insanity in Austin right now trying to get these things shipped and placate those of us still waiting (I'm near Chicago - it's going to be awhile yet) I'm more surprised that he's even responding to us at all - especially given he's on a business trip. As to next time waiting until retail - if we had all done that this package would not look anything like it does. I'm as eager to get my hands on this as everyone else but I'm try to keep in mind that the scope of this game is so different than anything I've seen before that issues have to be expected every step of the way.

    43. Dan Spezzano on November 8, 2013

Once again a KS complete underestimates shipping and people who ordered it from places like CSI will have it before backers. This trend continues far fewer companies are going to successfully fund games.

    44. Patrick Henry on November 8, 2013

The game is a solid year late but who cares. I also don't care who else can buy it and when. I don't think SJG truly understood the logistics of what they were offering when they made some of their stretch goals. Better luck next time. At least they finally got this new edition out the door. They have been working on that for about 5 years.

    45. DropDeadCriminal
      on November 8, 2013

@Philip (@ Patrick) - that's kind of a BS answer to the shipping. It didn't really bother me until that response. You going with the "well technically" answer. Just man up and say yes we F'd up and the 250k goal means nothing. People will be able to buy it in stores before all the KS backers get theirs. Lesson for if SJ Games does a KS for Car Wars, just wait for retail, it will be cheaper, you wont have to pay up front, and you will get it sooner.
