Factory Photos!

This week many of us are out of the office for conventions, but that doesn't stop the Ogre Designer's Edition from moving forward! In preparation for the factory visit the end of this month, all of our partners at the factory have been proceeding with manufacturing and making sure all of the components are ready to enter assembly when Sam and I arrive.

Today's update is simply an excuse to share photos with you. Our rep sent over eight pics and I was fairly certain many of you would love a peek at these. Every single time I see photos of the box I'm amazed; did any of us really imagine Ogre would ever be offered in a game as stunningly large as this edition?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that SJG doesn't pull an OUYA when November 2012 gets here.

It appears the entire fleet of container ships coming from China next month will be carrying nothing but Ogre Games for us. The economy of the world will take a hit again because all other imports from China will be delayed until all these ships return to from delivering Ogre. The price we pay for Ogre!!! Imagine a call from the White House; "Mr Jackson, we'd like to discuss the impact of importing your game into the US from China has had on the economy of the world. Next time you do this please let the world leaders know!"

@Phil: Speaking just for myself, I think "the process of printing" (particularly of something this size) would make a really interesting read on Daniel's Ogre blog.

@Gary McGrath - The games will be shipped in their original shipping cartons and each will be insured. But we cannot control shipping companies and how they handle packages.

@Gary - The structural integrity of the boxes during shipping is a huge concern for us as well and we are doing everything we can to reasonably ensure that everything will survive shipping unscathed! ~Brandon

Thanks for the update Steve - one burning question: Please tell me that the game will be shipped to international buyers in appropriately sturdy (gorilla-proof) packaging. I'd hate to have waited patiently all this time just to receive a trashed product.

@AstralWanderer -- do you recognize the circles under the maps in the last picture? They seem familiar, but I can't quite place them. The D-Day Dice maps (Atlantikwall, I think) in picture 2 are interesting.
30,000 plastic trays (2-piece Ogre garages) take up a lot of space...

Heh, I'm finding the backgrounds (floors, pallets, other games' countersheets) more interesting than the components! I guess it's too late at this point, but might it be possible to have jigsaw edges for the maps to keep them together on the table?

When we started this whole thing, I said I wanted production values on par with Tide of Iron. Ogre DE goes way beyond that. Thank you, SJG!

@Steven Collins - That's brilliant. And now stuck in my head.

@John H - No problem. I've toured so many printing plants in the last 20 or so years I often forget that not everyone knows the process of printing. If you ever want to see something amazing visit your local newspaper and watch copies being run.

    12. John H. on July 17, 2013

      Oh, OK, thanks for clarifying.

There are a lot of other games that have had tremendous complaints about offset counters and warped components.

Love that box. It reminds me of the box for Broadsides & Boarding parties though it looks like better cardboard.

@John H - Those are not counter sheets. Those are simply one side of what will eventually become counter sheets. Those are printed pages that are waiting to be merged with chipboard and then the second side.

    15. John H. on July 17, 2013

Oh, no! The counter sheets are warping!

(or is it just the angle and lens?)

Sure we get pets. Very many pets. Something along the lines of...

      Hard Ogre, Tall Ogre,
      Cold Computer Will

      Raging Ogre, Fighting Ogre,
      Kill, Kill, Kill

PS: we all very much appreciate the continued updates and pictures :). My father's side of the family lives in Austin and would _love_ to join the release party but the travel (from Germany) is too much of a PITA. And the boxes look too big for me to fly with, anyway :/.

Stupid Swipe. Sorry, but you do not get one pet per game.

    26. Philip Reed
      on July 17, 2013

The game is one pet carton and I approved another dollar per game in costs for styrofoam sheets and other protection for each game.

    27. James Diss on July 17, 2013

I am literally scared witless of what that beautiful box is going to look like going through the postal service. Do you guys have a packing box or similar that protects it?
