Stretch Events, Sponsored Events

Here’s the noncontroversial $600,000 stretch goal: I will come to at least two major summer/fall game conventions in 2013 (which ones? Still to be determined). The point is that at those conventions I will make Ogre my main focus, rather than That Card Game. I will run Ogre events, blow up your CP, and discuss what will be in the next supplement(s).

If we hit $650K we will do some kind of special launch event in Austin. It may be a simple, free open house where you can pick up your game and get it signed. Or it may be a mini-convention with food, events, special giveaways, maybe a GoH. If it’s a convention, there will be a cost to attend, but we will not offer the memberships through Kickstarter, as there is absolutely no time to sort out details or a reasonable fee. I guess I should surrrrrrrrrvey to find out what you prefer.

Sponsored events are possible. Check out the new $5,000 support level. Just don’t ask me to travel more than eight hours unless the Orient Express is somehow involved.

Ask me about the $700K stretch goal tomorrow. I may just go ahead and announce the Potentially Controversial Goal, and ask you to come back Monday to see the art.

 Ogre Line Editor

Having hit $550K, we’ve updated our Job Openings page with a brief description of the qualifications we will look for in an Ogre Line Editor. Important general info about working at SJ Games can also be found there. This will be an Austin job, and we are not taking applications until we make that job description more formal and specific, and until we put this Kickstarter project to bed! But there's what info we have for you now.

More Things To Blow Up

I am at the office today working on counter sheets. No promises, but I think I can get an extra Mobile Command Post onto "Targets Go Boom." It should probably be green, to go with the Ogres on that sheet and/or the Merc force.

Some of the ideas that our sponsors have had are really, really neat. You are going to see some MAD colors, for one thing - and some interesting scenario-building scenery, for another. I'm afraid the people on one forum who asked for an "orphanage" counter are going to be disappointed. Of course, there's nothing to stop you from taking a building and writing ORFINIJ on it. Anything from a burning Command Post to a Strongpoint backed up by howitzers, depending on just how really terrible a person you are.

Fluorescent T-Shirt

Thanks to Cormac Russell, here’s a picture of the green-and-orange T-shirt.

Zombiecide! has been squeezing tons of money out of supporters with add-ons (I know, because I keep buying them). I don't like the fact that I have to buy add-ons to feel like I have the complete game, but you could do a $15 Kickstarter Special-Edition Resin Ogre Mark-V miniature. That way, only the miniature folks would buy it, the non-mini people could pass without angst, and it would give you a good idea of how much miniature interest is truly out there (since cash speaks louder than survey clicks).

How else will I create my dictator uniform without patches? I need to command my army in style!

I like the idea of patches or stickers.

I think at this point instead of hunting for a big pool of new backers, tactics like adding swag is the best idea. I would love some patches, stickers, and perhaps even some mini maps for the classic counters!

Wow. Two new pledge goals I have absolutely no interest in. :-)

I can pretty much guarantee that I won't be making it to a release day or any conventions, but have fun!

Great ideas. Wish I was still stationed at Bergstrom (or hell, I'd even settle for Goodfellow or some base in San Antonio!). But now that I'm in distant, northern NM (and heading out towards even more distant northern California in the next few months) I don't think I can either go to the opening event or apply for the line editor job! Darn it (you would have liked my resume too, given that I served in the infantry, flew helicopters and served as an intelligence and targeting officer for 20+ years, retired as a Lt Col with a LOT of management experience, worked in defense contracting on doctrine, nuclear programs and training -- still do, actually -- worked in the USPS for two years, and at UPS for six months, added to which, I've been an avid wargamer since 1967 and have been playing Ogre since 1977! Ah well.

Wow, controversial goal moved to $700,000, huh? Given that the Penny-Arcade/Boing-Boing/Schlock Mercenary effect now seems to be subsiding, I'm guessing we're going to go back down to a rate of about $10,000/day for the last half dozen days. In other words, barring another surge in support, we'll definitely get the conventions, we might get the launch event, but we probably won't hit the secret controversial goal. I guess I'll find out tomorrow/Monday whether that's disappointing or not :)

I will definitely second OwlCon. :)

Steve, we understand you're the Guest of Honor at Convolution 2012 in BurlnGAME CA in November. Any chance we might see some kind of Ogre launch event there as well? Maybe we could just pick up our games and have you sign them at the con? Maybe I'm just dreaming...

Can you please make one of your OGRE-focused 2013 conventions (perhaps your first?) OwlCon XXXII (Feb 15-17, 2013)?

As the OwlCon miniatures game coordinator, a $245 backer, and heavy OGRE Miniatures fan, I can promise you all the support at our end you'll need. You were kind enough to take a few minutes last OwlCon to show me the prototype OGRE, and I thank you for that.
