Battlefields: The Final 48 Hours!

This is it, everyone.

Our last Ogre Designer's Edition stretch goal promise actually for Ogre is in its final 48 hour window. (Car Wars is the only other remaining stretch goal of any sort, and it is well on its way too.) The Battlefields Kickstarter will be ending in just under 48 hours. This is a full blown expansion to your glorious Ogre Designer's Edition. Even before the stretch goals are factored in, this had everything that ODE didn't:

  • Maps G3 and S3, plus scenarios
  • LAD counters
  • Engineer counters
  • Heavy Weapon Teams and Marines counters
  • 3-D Radar Stations and Swimming Ogre Towers
  • Two Ninja, a Vulcan and a Fencer-B ("enter a bar . . . ")
  • Entrenchment and Revetment counters
  • plus much more

But now that the stretch goals have all been unlocked, Battlefields has gone from two counter sheets to an amazing 12! There are overlay sheets (featuring water and beach overlays!), 2-D and 3-D counter sheets for the sponsored factions (Vatican, Nassau, ARF and Nihon NA), counters for the Iron Mountain scenario, and more. And this isn't even taking into account the maps now being double-sided with G1 and S1 on back!

Speaking of Iron Mountain, the map is available as a 24"x24" playmat add-on, along with no less that four other playmat maps, including two never-before-released ones. The four additional maps geomorph together to create a 48"x48" immense battlefield as well. Talk about room to roam!

This incredible expansion to Ogre Designer's Edition won't be released to retail, and similar to ODE, it is likely a one time deal. You owe it to yourself to check out the buzz over on the Battlefields campaign page. Come Friday night, it's gone!

Car Wars Sixth Edition Miniature Sculpt, Austin in April, and the Final Week of Ogre Battlefields

As you know, one of the stretch goals for the Ogre Designer's Edition project was for us to bring a new edition of Car Wars to Kickstarter. We've continued to playtest and refine the game, with month after month dedicated to a fast-to-play experience where players can construct cars in moments and then complete a four-player session in an hour-and-a-half to two hours.

One of many.
One of many.

Today, as our office was closing down for the holiday break, we received another piece of the Car Wars Sixth Edition puzzle: The first completed miniature for the new game. This is one of several in the works -- we've gone back and forth on numerous processes and designs -- and we're growing closer to the day that we can announce the launch date for the Car Wars Sixth Edition Kickstarter campaign.

Pew. Pew.
Pew. Pew.

Visiting Austin in April?

Yesterday, Steve teased something new that we have in the works for the first weekend in April. In yesterday's Ogre Battlefields update, Steve wrote:

"We have reserved space for Saturday and Sunday, April 6 and 7, for a mini-convention here in Austin. One of the games we will be featuring, for sure, is Ogre. Those who were at the Ogre release party know what to expect: a laid-back event with plenty of opportunities to play and to meet the people who make your games. There will also be some peeks at upcoming projects and probably some new releases you can take home.

We'll announce here when we have a registration system set up; this is really an Early Leak. Things we don't know yet include how many spaces we'll have available (maybe as low as 200), whether we'll have a room block at a local hotel (discussions are underway), and what the weather will be like (might be wonderful, might not)."

In addition to Ogre (and The Fantasy Trip), we'll also be running Car Wars Sixth Edition preview sessions both days of the mini-con. We have some fun ideas on how to teach the game and get players into the action quickly; more news once we finalize the pre-registration process.

Ogre Battlefields

And speaking of the Battlefields project, we're now entering the final week before the project comes to a close. There's one last stretch goal to smash before we reach the finish line, and so far the support has unlocked a lot of great content including double maps and several more counter sheets.

Check it out and join us today!

Devastating Stretch Goals: Ogre Battlefields!

Your Ogre Designer's Edition box needs a friend. And thanks to the support of Ogre fans, that friend is coming in 2019 in the shape of the new Ogre Battlefields expansion. Eight stretch goals have already been unlocked, doubling the number of mounted gameboards in the box and packing in two overlay sheets . . . and we still have almost three weeks to go before the project closes!

All Initial Stretch Goals Unlocked

We expected the "quad maps in every box" to be the last big push for the campaign . . . and the continued support has already blasted that stretch goal. That means we're working up new stretch goals, but we're being careful and not making promises that overly complicate the project or -- worse -- cause delays.

We will continue to add stretch goals to the campaign, but these will be stretch goals that we're confident in. Stretch goals that won't drive the expansion into red ink territory, won't knowingly push the estimated delivery date back, and will not reduce the fun packed inside the box.

First up? The $70,000 stretch goal to add two more sheets of counters into the box. How does this fit in with our "don't complicate things" guideline? The artwork for the counter sheets is already done! It's down to just funding the manufacturing of the sheets, which is something that you've shown us shouldn't be a problem . . . especially as more of you join the project and make this companion to your Ogre Designer's Edition box as big as possible!

Any Ogre Questions?

Do you have any questions about Ogre Battlefields or any other Ogre title? Ask away, and we'll do our best to answer the questions as directly and honestly as we can.

Car Wars Sixth Edition Dice, Return of the Pocket Box, and the Warehouse 23 Holiday Sale

Finally, after years of playing with prototype dice, we now have the Car Wars Sixth Edition dice samples in the office. Overall, these are fantastic; our partners at GPI always do a great job with our dice projects, and these don't disappoint. We have a few refinements to make to the designs, but those are minimal, and we're now within a couple of months of locking the tools and officially completing one stage of work on the new edition of Car Wars.

The Pocket Box Returns

The recent campaign for a new edition of The Fantasy Trip unlocked the creation of a new plastic Pocket Box. Now, we are officially taking steps to produce reprints of classic Steve Jackson Games titles from the eighties.

Test shots of the new Pocket Box. We removed the hang tab and made the box one-half-inch deeper than the original.

Earlier this week, I spent a day with David, our GPI project rep, where we reviewed progress on preparing files for reprints of titles like Ogre, G.E.V., Battlesuit, and more . . . and special reprints at that! We're taking the Pocket Box project to Kickstarter in early 2019, and if we're successful, we will be printing near-exact reproductions of those older games. Did you mom throw your games away back in the eighties and nineties? This will be your chance to replace them! These games will include a "2019 Reproduction" notice, but will otherwise be as close to the originals as can manage. And yes, this means you need to cut the counters out, just the way it was when I was in junior high!

Old-school fun!

Six-Sided Bullet Dice

You like dice. We know this. And, if you're like us, you really like dice. For those of you with an unhealthy obsession for dice (we need a support group, right?), we're happy to report that our new Bullet Dice are on track for release in February. These custom six-sided dice are useful with all sorts of games . . . hey, Ogre uses six-sided dice! Maybe these will work well with Ogre!

Set of six dice!

Warehouse 23 Holiday Sale

Lastly, we want to direct your attention to the Warehouse 23 holiday sale where you will find some older Ogre minis and titles on sale. If you've meant to fill holes in your collection, or if you want to share Ogre with your friends and family over the holidays, please check out the sale today and grab some goodies!

Any Questions?

As always, we're here if you have questions. We don't know everything, but our team will do the best we can to help out where possible.

Thanks, everyone, for your continued support!
