Have a question?
Am I just making this up, or was there a draft of the Ogre 6th edition rules? I went back through a bunch of updates and didn't see it. Did I just miss it, or did I see it somewhere else?
Problem solved...when all else fails read the instructions!
I just tried to access the Ogre Scenario Book 2 pdf and got this message "A username and password are being requested by http://www.sjgames.com. The site says: "Restricted Area". I tried my Ogre forum and Kickstarter user name and password but neither worked. What user name and password are we supposed to use to open the file?
The ogre model color test makes it look like a painted Ogre miniature. Would hope it looks better than that
Re: Sample Video: I was hoping it would look much more "classic" than that.
I mean the old classic units on a regular 2D looking board. Not sure I like this 3D stuff and models. The separation of unit attributes from the unit itself bugs me as well.
On the upside - really great to see progress started :)
bien, mal, laid (French) or their English translations - good, bad, ugly
Here's a few Ogre name suggestions:
BWLF, GRND, HRGR (Beowulf, Grendel, Hrothgar - from the Beowulf saga)
DGAL, ROML, ZUKV (DeGalle, Rommel, Zhukov - European practitioners of armored warfare)
MIKL, GABR, RAPH (MIchael, Gabriel, Raphael - archangels)
SGFR, ACHL, HRTS (Seigfried, Achiles, Horatius - mythological European heroes)
I'll suggest the names BEL, BUK, and CNDL.
Bah... I was thinking this would go on the SJGames forum... Comprehension fail.
Anyway, WWII Flashback:
FATH, HOPE, CHR-T (Faith, Hope, Charity) - On the face of it, Ironic name for a war machine... but it's been done.
I vote "SNAP", "CRKL", "POP"
Just seems natural...
OGRE Naming ...
I vote for "WAR", "DETH", and "PEST" ... the three OGRES of the apocalypse!
What of those of us sans Steam accounts?
Great news today regarding the computer game for next year. I applaud Steve Jackson Games for your commitment to carrying through with all of the stretch goals.
Work was begun on the Nightfall book, two line editors and an office flood ago. I have complete faith that it will get completed. It was promised, and SJG keep their promises, but there's a very long to-do list and it's probably pretty far down (on a chronological basis, it cropped up after the Kickstarter).
Re: Nightfall I hope so! Sounded like a great idea, and it sure would be nice to have that use for all those bits.
Disregard my last, they clarified they only have the tokens/counters. That said- while I recognize there are a lot of other goodines inbound, is the Nightfall scenario book even on the radar anymore?
Hey there, ran across somebody who said they got their scenario book for Nightfall some time ago... was there a link or something that I missed?
Is there going to be a new pdf of the rules and scenario book incorporating the errata? It's been about 2 years now...
Any word you can give us regarding the soundtrack?
Any news on Car Wars? Do we have a idea what year it will be done?
Wonderfully GREAT News!! So, so happy that SJG is on the road to releasing the NEXT OGRE game... (see soft announcement). I had almost given up on the idea that someone's wisdom would usher in this new edition!! Smaller package, smaller price point, and NOW I can soon broadcast to the game world that "OGRE IS BACK!!"
I have been running OGRE 6th Edition games at many, many game conventions, and stirred up a lot of interest in people wanting to buy the game, ONLY to tell them it is no longer available... such a let down to prospective gamers!! I will be waiting with bated breath for this... THANK YOU Steve Jackson, thank you SJG Staff, thank you, thank you, thank you!!
One quick question... Are the miniatures that are to be a part of this new release going to be the same size as OGRE 6th Ed.? Would be so cool if we, the Kickstarters, could intermingle the two editions... Thanks again. A loyal fan, owner, gamer of one of the BEST games EVER created!!
@Scott Chisholm - We have looked at (and continue to look at) the possibility of plastic minis. BUT it's only research at this time. There are no decisions and no action has been taken.
Thanks. I remember that effort. I thought I'd seen something about pursuing plastic models....
@Scott - We did this in early 2014 when we took pre-orders on all the existing Ogre Miniatures which allowed W23 customers to order new castings of whatever they wanted. Sorry to hear you missed it! -Brandon
I was curious if there had been any progress made on this stretch goal:
$450,000 - GOAL ACHIEVED! - Okay! Somehow, some way, we WILL bring back the Ogre miniatures (and not just the Ogres themselves, but the whole line). Maybe resin, maybe metal. I have already gotten some interesting responses from custom casters.
@jtc1975 - There is no news at this time. Steve has been working with Ogre bits.
I hate to be a pest, but am curious about the status of the Nightfall scenario book. With Jen having moved on, I know it's probably not at the top of the 'to do' list, but am wondering if there's any sort of tentative date planned? Thanks!
Well, I guess someone needs to welcome Steve back to the Ogre job! Welcome back, Steve! ;-)
Hopefully we'll see some movement on this now. It's been a long wait.
@Rich - There is no news at this time. Also, there is no specified platform at this time. The stretch goal states: "We are now committed to releasing an Ogre computer game, for some platform or platforms, by the end of 2014."
2014 will not happen. 2015 is unlikely.
Any word on Ogre for PC?
@jtc1975 - No update at this time. Also, the office is closed this week and none of the staff are in the office until the 6th. I am sure once Jen has something she's ready to share there will be an update.
I'm aware of the multiple projects vs. limited number of staff, but: any word on Nightfall? I'm looking foward to 'finishing out' my collection of awesome OGRE stuffs (at least, of what's been released)! :)
Never eat pizza and try to type....it was the 6/22 update.
ans = and
The June 18th Update gives us new rules ans mentions that we can get updated rules
at the Ogre site. The rules there appear to be the original designer rules, not updated.
When you post them please indicate (somewhere) the date or revision so we can keep it all straight.
First, any updates on the Nightfall campaign?
Second, any updates on the sound track?
I didn't miss the soundtrack somewhere along the way, right? That would make me sad inside.
As mentioned in Update #177, "Additionally, the book promised by Fire Mountain Games is being produced by Steve Jackson Games. We have the Fire Mountain Games materials and have started work on completing the project. Once we have finished we'll release this in PDF. At this time we don't have an expected release date for the PDF, but when we have information we'll post an update here."
It seems Jen is the primary (sole?) SJG staff member devoted to Ogre. As we've seen, she's actively finishing up the Scenario Contest releases, with the first "in the wild". If you haven't checked it out, please do: http://www.sjgames.com/ogre/scenarios/mark-o-polo.html. And Jen is looking for feedback re: these scenarios on the forums: http://forums.sjgames.com/showthread.php….
The upshot of all this is that there are MANY pots on the stove and she is just one chef; I'm sure the Nightfall book is on her mind, but it may be awhile before she get's it out to us. Remember, it is Fire Mountain Games that failed to produce the book. SJGs has volunteered to step into the gap and (eventually) fulfill the promise that FMGs made. SJGs had no obligation to do this; they chose to do so to benefit us, the fans. Patience is STRONGLY encouraged.
Yeah, curious about the Nightfall scenario book myself.
Did the booklet for Ogre Nightfall ever get released? I know I have the sheets, but not the campaign itself.
@Mike Malley- No decision on Pocket GEV at this time.
Was Pocket GEV ever decided on?
@fredgiblet - The internet is his friend! I'm sure if he was interested he'll search online. Thanks for spreading the word.
Nah, I didn't really think about my response, just said "They had a new edition Kickstarted." No idea if he's going to follow up or not because he left right after.
@redgiblet - And did you tell him about Pocket Ogre?
Wore my shirt to the mall today, a guy stopped me and asked if Ogre was still in production and that he hadn't seen it since the 80s. I told him about the Kickstarter.
Would by Pocket GEV, but the map needs to be in color per the original, I don't think it works in greyscale.
I'd spend 10 on Pocket GEV. And another 10 on Pocket Reinforcements
I would certainly buy a couple of copies for friends at the very least.
I would buy Pocket G.E.V. for ~$10. Possibly two copies.
Just got my Fire Mountain games sheets! (I assume last night, I missed the slim envelope in my screen door!)
Thanks SJG and Fire Mountain!
