This work is the final product of my senior capstone project in Visual & Media Studies at Duke University and my first art photography book ever. All of the 24 images featured inside were captured between January and April of this year.
I've had a wonderful experience photographing the local landscape with my DJI Phantom 3 drone, taking nearly 3,000 aerial images over the semester. This collection contains my favorite views of our city.
The 7x5" postcard-sized paperback is just right for any pair of hands, and will be an attractive conversation piece on any desk or coffee table. It features a description of the project at the beginning and an index of locations on the last page.
The book will be printed right here in Durham on 100% recycled stock, which has a very pleasant texture and beautifully accommodates the fine details and vibrant tones of the photographs. Its panoramic binding style means that there's no gutter in the middle, so pages lay flat as you turn them.
Here's a peek at a few of the pictures inside...
Risks and challenges
I am using the Kickstarter platform for this launch to spare myself both the upfront cost and the risk of printing a large number of books and then being on the hook to sell them all. This way, I can print the exact number of books to meet demand. As long as there are at least 100 ordered, they will go into production.
The book shown in the product photos is the final proof copy. The local printing company I'm working with specializes in short run, rapid turnaround jobs, and the only thing I have left to do is specify the final number of books to produce.
I expect to have all orders shipped out before the end of May (I will contact you through Kickstarter to ask for a shipping address after the campaign).Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
