Hello, everyone! Thank you SO much for taking the time to look at our Kickstarter page for Thrive's brilliant new production, BUFFER. This project has been a long time in the making with playwright extraordinaire Alan Gordon first having the idea for the play back in 2012. And after the fantastic success of our 2012 production, Riot Squat, Alan and Artistic Director Becky have joined forces again to share this marvelous new production with you.
THE PROJECT SO FAR
So how have we been able to fund this project?! We hear you ask! In February, we held a fundraiser scratch night to raise some starting costs for the project. Several of our fantastic Thrive supporters kindly attended and we managed to raise enough for the fringe registration fee, which was a big help!
SInce then we have managed to fund the booking of our brilliant two venues at theSpaceUK on North Bridge and at Surgeon's Hall and our marketing costs.
WHERE DOES YOUR MONEY GO?
Now we need to raise a little more to actually make the physical show possible in August.
Set, Costumes and Props
Our incredible emerging designer, Claudia has some fantastic plans for the set and of course how to dress the actors! With that extra little bit of help, we can achieve her wonderful vision and make everything look spectacular for you when you come and see it!
Luckily, most of the team our Edinburgh-based. However, two of the fantastic actors will have to travel to Edinburgh for rehearsals and the production itself. With this extra funding, we can make sure they get here on time and without too much stress!
All the money we raise goes straight into the project, every pound makes a difference to the kick-ass production we are creating!
The legal stuff
In order to perform in theSpaceUk we have to have production insurance in case anything goes wrong. Your contribution will help us stay safe and keep within the venue regulations.
ABOUT THE PLAY
We type, we mail, we text, we Skype, we friend but in a world that is more connected than ever, what happens when we strip away technology and remove the buffer between ourselves and reality? Do we thrive and move forward…or are our lives just left buffering, desperately in need of a broadband connection.
‘Aren’t you glad we grew up in a time, before everything started being logged seared onto the Internet for all time?’
Join three twenty-something examples texting and Facebook-ing their way through life and for whom face-to-face communications, and even talking on the phone, have fast become relics of a bygone era. The perfect cocktail of misunderstandings, home truths and harsh realities make for an exciting show from beginning to end. Expect Grindr with the audience, Instagram attacks and some balls out face-to-face communication.

Risks and challenges
The Edinburgh Fringe is a huge festival with hundreds of productions. It is expensive to participate in and very often companies have to work extremely hard to build audiences due to fierce competition.
However, Thrive Theatre was created and is situated in Edinburgh all year round. Our creative team have many years of experience with the fringe and have fantastic track records to prove it. With big ambitions for the company, we have put in place the correct measures to ensure the stability and success of this show.
Having been mentored by Playwright's Studio Scotland and the Traverse Theatre, our playwright Alan Gordon has a huge amount of support and backing from both organisations. Several of our company members trained at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and so have been professionally trained for working within the industry.
We are sure this gives us more than enough experience and preparation to make sure this is the most successful fringe yet!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
