Troika! is a rules-lite beginner-friendly science-fantasy role-playing game for 2+ people written in the tradition of 80s British RPGs. Players can be up and running in a matter of minutes with any of the 36 randomly assigned character backgrounds, each containing everything they need to know to get into the tone and cadence of the world. Before long, the party will be travelling from sphere to crystal sphere across the humpbacked sky, not lost, but moving towards adventure.
Below are some very generous comments regarding our previous edition.
“Troika captured my imagination as soon as I read through it.”
"I find a lot of the esoteric fantasy over the line into incoherence and obscurity."
“Hipster Planescape for the win.”
"There is more flavor in one paragraph of this than in a dozen OD&D knockoffs."
We are the Melsonian Arts Council, who have been successfully publishing RPG and RPG-adjacent books since 2014. We specialise in author-led projects, allowing the freedom for each book to be an entirely unique vision.
Troika! is being written by ENnie award winner Daniel Sell, and illustrated by an outstanding cast of artists including Dirk Detweiler Leichty, Sam Mameli, a returning Jeremy Duncan, and the ENnie award winning Andrew Walter.
The PDF will be up to our usual standards of digital literature, hyperlinked and so on.
The hardback book will see a return to our critically acclaimed standards of book construction. These books will outlive their owners.
The dice will be differently coloured for your d666ing convenience, and will have a spot of customisation to them.
The limited edition version will be an altogether more exotic arrangement, though the exact details will depend on how well we do. Consider the extravagance of this book to be a silent stretch goal.
The chapbooks will be small softbacks, designed to compact as much material into as small a space as possible. All contributors will get these in PDF form. Hard copies will be made available on our shop once they are finished.
There are over 40 pieces of new art going into the new edition, alongside a completely new editing sweep, a new introduction, a new layout, rewritten entries encompassing accumulated errata, and potentially new enemies and a short introductory adventure if things go well.

We work out postage once the items are finished. This gives you the freedom to get things one at a time or wait until the end, while it lets us be certain we don't under or over charge for postage.
You'll get the PDF sent through RPGNow, via your Kickstarter email address.
All physical items will be sent via our shop. You'll get a code for use in our shop, where the item is free and you need only pay postage. The code will not run out and you are free to add other non-Kickstarter items to your order as the mood takes you.
Predicted postage prices for a single fat book:
United Kingdom: £3

Risks and challenges
We've been generous with the time frame. Realistically it should be sooner but we have allowed a lot of wiggle room since there are so many artists involved, each with their own lives and potentials for delay.
A lot of the work is already complete, funded from the leftovers of previous Kickstarters, The writing is building upon our previous edition, and finished except for further editing.
If any stretch goal writers back out for any reason, Daniel Sell will take up the job. If the printing goes wrong, we have reserves enough to stumble through as long as we don't mind living under a bridge for a few years.
If for some reason people lose their minds and sponsor a hundred chapbooks, it will obviously take a little bit more than the projected time to fulfill them.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
