Joy Cutler and Beth Custer met in San Francisco in 1983 and became immediate best friends. Separately they've performed, collaborated, and created a myriad of theatre and music projects over several decades but this will be their first collaboration! After years of talking about making something together, they are finally merging to create Happy Birthday Kim Hunter as part of Philadelphia's Fringe Festival.
Custer will be creating music for the project this month and joining Joy in Philly in September to rehearse and perform in the premiere.
Risks and challenges
Although Joy Cutler and I are long time friends, this will be our first artistic collaboration. The risks of us working together? Lose our friendship? Not likely....we've been close for 30 years!
The challenges will be for me to create a great evening length score from afar in a short amount of time. Joy's in Philadelphia...I'm in San Francisco.
The cast has already started rehearsing in Philadelphia where the premiere and short run of HAPPY BIRTHDAY KIM HUNTER will take place as part of the Philadelphia Fringe Festival. I've been brought on to create a score for the premiere of this hilarious, scary play.
I'll be working remotely in my studio in San Francisco and sending MP3 sketches for the production to work with. I'll create a rich a bed of rich sounds using my virtual library that I'll be able to sing and play clarinets and keyboard live with for the production.
Your kind donations get you some hip prizes and foster a new musical score by yours truly. Thanks so much for reading this far....even a $5 donation gets you a Moaning Song from the production....what could be better?!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
