Bringing socially & politically conscious theatre to life. Revealing the stories within the fine print. Read more

About this project
The Fine Print is a non-profit theatre company in Chicago. We produce new plays about contemporary social & political issues; stories told through the lives of everyday people directly impacted by the events of the headlines.
In the interest of keeping tickets affordable for everyone, supporting artists and providing high-quality entertainment; theatre relies on the generosity of individual donors, grants from government & private foundations and corporate underwriting to cover about 50% of operating expenses.
As a brand new company, we don't qualify for most grants or corporate support. Individuals, like you, are the key to our success.
For as little as $5, you can add your name to the list of folks who are there with us from the very beginning. No donation is too small. Our strength lies in numbers; the joining of a community to create something together.
2011-12 With your support, the inaugural season of The Fine Print Theatre Company will bring two world premiere productions to life and foster the development of new work through a festival.

"There is a letter for Arthur, my husband."
Kurt has just returned from Afghanistan. Once a career soldier, his time on the battlefield is now over after an explosion that left him permanently disabled and claimed the life of his friend and fellow soldier Ben. As Ben lay dying, he revealed a secret and asked Kurt to carry back a letter. Before Kurt and his wife Claire can move on, he must face the truth of his friend's double-life and carry out his final wishes. But something dark is holding Kurt back, and somehow, Ben has followed him home.

November - December, 2011
"I feel something growing in me. Something black. -like if you spilled a bottle of ink on a sheet of paper with all the names they call me written on it-"
Patrick isn't all that different- but after his classmates break his arm for not fitting their mold, he attempts to escape their bullying by running away with his best friend Shane. When heartbreak derails Patrick’s fast track to happiness, he is left to confront not only his tormentors, but also his growing need for acceptance. An unsettling coming-of-age story for the modern day, The Xylophone West chronicles a young boy’s journey into the heart of violence and back again.
Citizens' Play Festival
10 Playwrights | 5 Directors | 1 Winner
"A play is fiction - and fiction is fact distilled into truth" - Edward Albee
Ten playwrights compete for a spot in the 2012-13 Season. Choosing an actual newspaper article, playwrights will loosely base a short, original theatrical piece on it. 5 of the ten pieces will be performed each night, rotating throughout the run. Audience members will have the opportunity to vote for the piece they would most like to see developed into a full-length play. The winner will receive development assistance and feature production in Season Two.
Video production by Magnanimous Media.
Featuring the song "Up Up Up" from the new album "Wild Violet" by Tiger Cry.
