About
I began designing the Titan last year; my goal was a quality watch that could be worn every day, no matter what one may be doing. I’ve always had an appreciation for the early military style watches; devices designed out of the necessity of war. The earliest military watches were the precursor of the wrist watch, initially pocket watches attached to straps so they could be worn on the wrist for easy access and viewing without the need to fumble for a pocket watch. I wanted a big, easy to read, extremely durable watch. A watch that’s suitable for hunting, fishing or enjoying water sports. A watch for people working in security, policing or military services. A watch designed with respect to the tradition of early military watches with all the modern features that make today's watches the fine timepieces they are. I have been working on several other models since completing the design of the Titan. It's my hope that a successful Kickstarter campaign may generate some momentum which will enable me to offer the other pieces I have designed on my website.

The Movement
I went with the Miyota 9015 for the automatic model. It is a 24 jewel proven and reliable caliber with over 40 hours of reserve when fully wound. The 9015 has the hacking seconds hand feature and offers excellent shock resistance. These features are what make it the perfect movement for a tough, everyday watch like the Titan.
I decided early in this project to offer a quartz model as well. The convenience and accuracy of the quartz movement is common feature in watches of this type. For the quartz movement, it would also be Miyota, not just for consistency but because of the high quality and shock resistance of the Miyota 2315 movement. The 2315 has Miyota's IC Shock Detection system that detects external shock and prevents seconds hand skip. The 2315 has a long three year battery life.
The Crystal
After much deliberation, I chose a domed sapphire crystal that is 4mm thick with an anti-reflective coating on the inside. Sapphire or zirconium dioxide is one of the hardest man made materials rated 8 on mohs scale of hardness, compared to that of a diamond, rated at 10 mohs. Sapphire offers excellent scratch resistance and is extremely durable.
The Case
The case is a large 46mm and machined from solid titanium. It is big, bold, easy to read and tough as it gets! Titanium is 55% lighter than stainless steel and just as strong, it is inert (non-conductive, nonreactive and nonmagnetic) as well as being extremely resistant to corrosion. With titanium, I am able to make a very sturdy watch without the weight you would find in most other common watch case materials. The automatic watch weighs just 70 grams (2.5oz) while the quartz version is only 54 grams (1.9oz).
Case Back
The Titan comes with a screw down case back that combined with the screw down crown help provide 10 ATM of water resistance, that converts to 100 meters or 330 feet. The design of the case back was not finalized when the prototypes were made, an image is shown below.

Drilled Lugs
I am not a big fan of the typical spring pins used on most watch straps. Even the best spring pins are unreliable and often fail which can result in a damaged or even lost watch. Strap screw bars are the answer, I am not the first to offer this up as a solution to unreliable spring pins. The Titan's pins are also machined from titanium, they are very secure, tough and practically impossible to break. Every watch will be delivered with a spare set of screw bars as well as a 2mm stainless steel jeweler's screwdriver used to change them.

Risks and challenges
Should this project reach it's goal manufacturing will begin immediately. We have partnered with an very experienced manufacturer of high-quality watches in China to help bring this watch to market as quickly and cost effectively as possible. The watch is made with only the best materials available with the Japanese made movements coming from a watch group with many decades of experience.
There is a reliable supply of all of necessary materials and delays are not likely. That being said there is always a small risk for delays, if we do experience any delays I would not expect them to take the delivery beyond the year end. I have the utmost confidence that every supporter will receive their order by late October or early November.
