When Randy Huckabone sat down to plan his next project, he took a close look at the history of independent films. The ones that failed and the ones that succeeded and why. He looked at market research to see what audiences were embracing and networking channels of filmmakers and investors in the Rochester, NY area.
While researching he learned of an incident that took place in the 60's here in Rochester. An unsolved mystery that went unnoticed. This was to be the basis of his next project.
Choosing to focus on that mystery from long ago as the subject of a documentary wasn't enough. If this was to be the chilling tale Randy wanted it to be, he would have to put a contemporary spin on the story adding dramatizations in as well as covering the facts. The filmmaker was going to add something else into the documentary, but only grinned and stated 'you'll see'.
When Randy began to discuss this story idea among peers, he could see the excitement in their eyes. The anticipation of the thrill. That's when he knew for sure this project needed to be done.
That project is 'Shadow House'.
'Shadow House' is Randy Huckabone's fourth feature-film. Although Randy prefers you address it as a documentary. While in Post-Production of his last feature 'Like the Spider', Randy planned every element of 'Shadow House'; how the story would be executed, how he would distribute the final movie and many other elements he wouldn't discuss.
This was going to be a scary ride both behind the camera and for the viewing audience. While Randy usually shoots his feature-films without a crew, for this one he is hoping to hire one. He's determined to shoot this movie either way but emphasized how important having a crew could be.
"I realized that every film I make without a crew, leaves potentially amazing and skilled people out. People that could essentially help make my projects better." Said Randy "And I want to be a major supporter of local talent as much as I've been supported by others."
Randy has broken the pledge list down into tiers. The first tier, a mere $2500' will allow 'Shadow House' to be made but won't give Randy the freedom to hire a much needed crew. His highest tier level is $10,000.
(See tier level breakdown below)
This project is in good hands, please support this by contributing funds or please spread the word so that other might be able to.
'SHADOW HOUSE' is a feature-length documentary. This will be a 10-day shoot.
TIER ONE - $2500
This pays for the minimal elements of making 'Shadow House'. The actors get paid a little and some of the expenses are taken care of, such as food, gas, meals and materials.
TIER TWO - $3500
This level adds in Camera and Sound Operator.
TIER THREE - $5000
This tier allows us to hire an Editor, Make-up Artist, Script Supervisor and more expenses get paid.
TIER FOUR - $7500
Here we can shift gears into a semi-full crew to make 'Shadow House' as detailed as possible. With this tier we can hire a Producer, Assistant Director, Special FX Artist, Set Decorator and purchase elements to create the horror that takes place in this movie. Details of that are under lock and key.
TIER FIVE - $10,000
This tier allows a full crew, all of the materials needed, CGI (Computer generated images) artists for the scary elements of the movie (Which aren't being talked about)
Thank you for your time and support.
Risks and challenges
I've faced many different kinds of obstacles throughout my film making career. If you can imaging shooting 18-days straight on a feature film, without a crew, as I did with 'Like the Spider', you can imaging the struggles and unique challenges one can face. I NEVER gave up. It's not in my nature. I'll shoot alone again, I'm not afraid. But I'm hoping you'll allow me to hire a full film crew for 'Shadow House'.
