An ABC book where A is not only for apple. Children already know about apples so there are none in this book.
This is our project. It has taken us 3 years to get to this point. All items have been photographed and then traced by Sven (except a couple that had to be drawn) (Oh yes, and the helicopters picture was taken by Dee in Bulgaria)
I made this book for my son Byron because I couldn't find an interesting ABC book for him. Everything I saw had A for Apple and B for Ball and so on. I thought that it would be more interesting if the book could be more interactive. With Byron's ABC book you can ask the child what he/she sees or you can ask them to find something on the page (I've added all items and animals on the pages in writing to help the adults : ) ). Because it is a high contrast book you can also start using this book for babies and toddlers.
The subject matter I have included is not the obvious but a mix of what they might see in the zoo, on the street and in their daily life as well as a few surprise items. It is intended to appeal to the adult as much as to the child. A source for conversation between the adult and the child or between children.
Our aim is to make more books like this one, intelligent books for young people that make them use their brains.

Please note that the book seen in the video is only a hand made prototype for the purpose of this video. The challenge will be to make a beautiful book that has a nice touch at the same time as it looks great. Trying to print special edition 'art-house' books where most printers are geared towards commercial prints I am finding a challenge. Most printers caters for companies so their machinery is geared towards their need. I will have to try to make them go outside their comfort zone to produce this book. Any special type of print is also more expensive so keeping quality high and price reasonable is what I would have to aim for. I am hoping my 15 years experience working in the industry and Dee's persuasive charm will help. Also the special edition books will be difficult, as I am making a concertina book it will have to be made by hand because there is no machine that will be able to fold a nearly six meter print into 28 sections.
