Hey friends! Beyond Curie is back — just in time for the holidays. Give thanks and cheer to the special people in your life with beautiful and inspiring greeting cards featuring female scientists and engineers.

Last year, over 600 backers brought to life this celebration of badass women in STEM, including all 18 female winners of the Nobel Prize in Physics, Chemistry, and Medicine / Physiology, (as well as another 24 lady bosses who have accomplished extraordinary things in these fields.

The original Beyond Curie Kickstarter featured 32 women, the the Kickstarter community gave me ideas for a couple more, which took us to 35, then Outside Magazine asked us to co-create a small series bringing us to 40, and this year 2 more women, Frances H, Arnold and Donna Strickland, joined the ranks of these badass pioneers, so I had to create portraits of them. Now we're at 42!

Holiday Heroes

So I thought. The holidays are coming up, people will be sending cards to the folks who matter most to them. What better way to celebrate the ones you love than by sending them the heroes of science, technology, engineering and mathematics who remind you most of them?

These holiday cards will be shipped the first week of December, so you've still got time to send them out. But if you choose not to send them over the holidays they're still great for birthdays, graduation, thesis defense or just because!

The project has connected me with extraordinary women around the world who have so generously shared their stories and helped me share these portraits with others. Together we've been able to share the project in different places such as TEDWomen, on Fast Company, Quartz, Smithsonian Magazine, the March for Science, the Museum of Natural Sciences and of all places in a highway tunnel in Breda, Netherlands.

I've also received notes from women around the world:

”When I saw your project, I couldn't think of many female scientists beyond Marie Curie and that hit me like a punch to the gut. It made me sad and then, it kinda made me angry! I've heard of many of these discoveries, but never knew that women made them. Projects like this make me proud to be in science.”

"I backed this project also because my sister is a middle school science teacher in a very conservative, homogenous area of the US, and I want to expose her students, especially the young women at such a crucial age in their own characterizations of what they can be come, to scientists they might not have heard about otherwise."

I am a woman programmer who's been working in the field for over 25 years and I feel like I have really missed out on having women role models to look to. I feel so strongly that it is critically important to be able to SEE women doing things, to know how capable and strong and smart women are ... even after all these years, I desperately need to be able to know these women, as my own inspiration to keep going. "

I'm so excited to bring these holiday greeting cards to you and I can't wait to hear what you do with them.

What's with the name?

Curious about why I named this project Beyond Curie?

We all know Marie Curie.

Born Maria Skłodowska, she was a Polish/French scientist who did pioneering research on radioactivity. The first woman to win a Nobel Prize, the first person ever to win it twice, and the only person to win it in two different sciences.

She was a badass, no doubt.

But there are many other women scientists, mathematicians, and engineers who have made incredible advances in their respective fields, and never earned the recognition they deserve. Let's change that.

LIMITED EDITION! AR-enabled Beyond Curie cards

We'll send you a set of 15 square 5"x5" cards made from extra heavy-weight stock that feature scientist blurbs and offer dazzling 3D animations when viewed from our free Beyond Curie app on Apple App Store or Google Play. Give the gift of science and technology to friends and family and let them experience the thrill of augmented reality animations. Check out the demos below.

Risks and challenges

There are very few risks associated with this project. The cards have been designed and printed. The only risk may be that the cards arrive very close to when you're planning on sending them out for the holidays. But the good news is that they have an evergreen design and can be used for any occasion.
