Quotes from those eating cupcakes or cookies from Ruby’s Bakehouse:
“Your pumpkin cupcakes were AMAZING!!!”
“Everyone was *raving* about all the things that you made. Seriously. You have an amazing gift.”
“Your cupcakes were a HUGE hit at my party!”
“I LOVE your cupcakes!!”
Because really, they are that delicious.
The backstory: Ruby’s Bakehouse is named after my grandma, Ruby, who instilled a love of baking in me once I learned how to make her famous German Chocolate Cake. And then once I started creating recipes of my own, I couldn’t be stopped! I proudly create from-scratch cakes (no box mixes for me!) with smooth and creamy buttercream or cream cheese frosting. And while the Indianapolis area has a few cupcake bakeries scattered around, I haven’t found one that matches mine in texture, flavor, or frosting. I have tested cupcake and cookie recipes for more than two years now and have developed more than 20 flavors with another 22 in the testing phase. I'm also hoping to expand into the gluten free market and would eventually like to offer all my flavors as gluten free options.
None of the cupcake bakeries in my area work in the farmer’s market arena – the exact area I want to enter. I currently operate under the Home Based Vendor law, but the current area markets do not honor this law. I need to get proper certification and insurance to apply for a farmer’s market, and I also need funds for packaging, displays, ingredients, and commercial kitchen rental.
The vision: Ruby’s Bakehouse cannot expand without growing its customer base, and what better way to do that than selling our cupcakes and cookies at a local farmer’s market! Thousands of visitors come through Indianapolis area farmer’s markets every weekend. Many of my current customers would love to be able to get cupcakes from me in more than one flavor at a time. Having one day every week where customers could come and get a MIXED dozen would be a welcome addition to the services we currently offer. We also have a few fun ideas we're beginning to roll out to make our business unique. Within the next couple of months, I'll be renaming our cupcakes and cookies after some of my favorite TV characters! What is better than combining two of my favorite things -- baking and television!
A breakdown of the projects we will be funding:
- Funds for our certification and licensing fees
- Insurance fees
- Packaging and displays
- Bulk ingredients
- Commercial kitchen rental fees to get us started
