HOW IT WORKS!
The idea for our hybrid golf tee came in 2008 when I was playing a round at my local course. As I was going to spot my ball on the green I pulled out the contents of my pocket, and came out with a handful of items. I had coins, ball markers, "long distance" tees, and quite a few broken wood tees. The idea of creating a tee that comprised all of these components, but with better durability struck like lightning. I immediately left the course, and got online to find some kind of plastic to make my own prototype. After a little searching I had found some moldable plastic, and after waiting a few days for it to arrive I had created my first hybrid magnetic golf tee!
Taking the First Step
After I created the first tee I was ecstatic. I showed it off to my family, and a few close friends and they were thrilled as well, and even more so after we tried some out. I had taken my vision and turned it into something that I thought could be great. So what next?.. Well, next was the birth of my first daughter Madelyn, and the next thing I knew my first prototypes were sitting in my room almost until the birth of my 2nd daughter Maycie years later. It wasn't until 2012 when I found myself working in a stressful dead end job that I knew I had to take a chance and move forward with the tee.
I then approached my parents about investing, and together we were able to put enough money together to make our prototype.
Our First Tee and Testing
After approaching an injection molding company in early 2012 we finally had our first samples by Christmas of that year. Shortly after we received the samples we contacted GolfLabs for testing, and planned our trip out to San Diego, CA in February of 2013. In San Diego we showed the tee around and received some excellent feedback. Yet our best feedback came from GolfLabs when it showed that using our tee would give you an extra 7.5 yards! We spent the rest of 2013 showing off our tee at few professional events, and waiting on a ruling of conformity from the USGA and the R&A.
The rulings finally came back from the governing bodies as conforming, and the feedback from the public and professionals alike was tremendous. We had great feedback from pros like Natalie Gulbis, Padraig Harrington, Rory Sabbatini, Stacy Lewis, Robert Streb and many more!
Each package contains 2 - 1.5" above ground height tees, 2 - 2" above ground height tees, and 2 ball marker bases.
Where to go from here?
By the end of 2013 we had a tee with tremendous testing results, great feedback, a sleek design, and the capability of being customized. But we had 1 HUGE problem. Just like most other start up companies we had a great product and lots of R&D costs but no money to move forward! Then when a friends father told us about Kickstarter, it sounded like the exact opportunity we needed to move forward!
In order to effectively do that we need to raise $10,000. This is an outline of where we need to spend our money, and when you can expect your Revolution Golf Tees!
$3000- For a minimum run of White, Red and Orange tees.
$1000-To lease a high quality UV printer for tee bases.
$1000- Component parts (powder coating supplies, discs, magnets)
$1000- Packaging for individual tee top replacement packs.
$4000- Tooling changes for the current mold.
Once we reach funding we should be able to ship product in about 8 weeks. We will begin all of our tasks immediately, but below is a timeline for each individual task.
Making new tees - 2-3 weeks
New Packaging - 3-4 weeks
Component parts - 5 weeks (powder coating bases, making of magnets, and steel discs)
Printer leasing and setup - 4 weeks
Tooling Changes for existing mold - 4-5 weeks
Risks and challenges
Every time someone creates a project they will face challenges. The two biggest keys for overcoming them are: 1. Knowing your product, and the challenges that might arise, and 2. PREPARATION!
We know our product, manufacturers, and costs thoroughly, and we are 100% confident in our ability to see this project through completion and beyond. Once we are approaching our goal we will immediately set the wheels in motion, and do everything we can to complete the project ahead of schedule.
We are an open book, so if you every have any questions or you want an update, contact us!
