Meet the XensrCase
The XensrCase is the most precise sports motion tracking accessory made for the iPhone 5/4/4S and iPod touch (5G/4G). Measuring 3D motion at a blistering 400 samples per second, the XensrCase is not only capable of capturing speeds, location, and altitude/elevation, but also captures precise jump heights common in high energy sports. No longer is it just about the total mileage, average speed, or estimated calories burned. Now its about stairs climbed, big air jumps, g loading, spin rates, tricks, impact on landings (or crashes) and everything else about your sessions captured with precise scientific measurement where reality trumps perception.
We here at EpicSesh are active extreme sports athletes who really wanted to know how high we and our friends were boosting. Seeing that everyone has a smartphone, we thought that developing an iPhone app to utilize the internal inertial sensors used for phone orientation and game controls could give us the height data that we desired. After preliminary testing we found that not only could we NOT capture jump height with just the internal inertial sensors in the iPhone alone, but that even in simple sports like running we would easily saturate the +/- 2G capabilities of the iPhone's internal, inertial sensors. Without precise motion data, getting accurate jump heights (and other metrics) is impossible with any degree of precision and consistency. When we designed and tested the first prototypes of the XensrCase, we discovered that not only was it possible to get precise jump height data with our robust compilation of inertial sensors, but also that we could capture it in sports like Windsurfing and Kiteboarding which have incredibly hostile environments for GPS acquisition and realtime feedback. While we started this whole endeavor with Windsurfing, we all participate in multiple sports and desired data in Mt. Biking, Snowboarding, Skiing, Running, Wakeboarding, Kiteboarding, Stand Up Paddling and more - including motorsports. What we discovered is that each sport has a unique motion fingerprint, and as such we've designed our motion tracking algorithms to be sports specific. We call this motion sensing technology: TruMotion.
Designed for sports
Consumer GPS was made for vehicle navigation but it falls short when applied to tracking sports motion. GPS data updates happen every second but in action sports, a lot can happen in that period of time. Combine this slow data rate with low precision, and GPS combined with the low-g internal inertial sensors in the iPhone can't accurately capture when a snowboarder jumps or track exactly how many stairs a runner is ascending. The XensrCase was designed from the ground up to capture high dynamic three dimensional sports motion. At an amazing 400 data samples per second, captured by it's robust compilation of inertial sensors, the XensrCase "fills in the gaps" between GPS updates to capture your every move. Many sports involve high G loading even in what people think of as smooth motion - the compression before a jump or the smooth looking landing can actually be more than 14G's!
The new state of the art
The XensrCase is crammed full of the latest digital high G 3 axis accelerometers, three axis digital gyros, a barometric pressure sensor, a raw data capable GPS module, and CPU all mounted on a state of the art flex circuit. All of this is smartly designed into a tight package that connects to the iPhone 4/4S or iPod touch without making the device bulkier or more cumbersome. These sensors combine to form a single sensor fusion package, and with data processed by our TruMotion Technology, make the XensrCase the most precise sports motion product available. Of course, the iPhone and iPod both bring some capabilities to the party. Mounted properly with onboard video enabled, the EpicSesh app can record your POV sports action video and overlay your motion data right onto the recorded video so that you can post to Facebook about your epic sesh while still out in the field. The app can also monitor your performance in realtime and give you audio feedback cues, lap/split times, and if you hit a personal best or Redline, the app can post to your friends about your achievement.

You are not a dot on a map
We've all seen the dot on the GPS display, and a dot alone isn't representative of an athlete in motion. We're people, not dots. An athlete has orientation, velocity and other attributes of his/her sports activity. We're runners who's workouts include steps - a simple part of our environment that GPS and other systems cannot accurately measure, but impact our workout greatly. Even simple sports like running are greatly enhanced by the XensrCase.
We're not dots in the forest, we're riders who are boosting, making drops, and soaring over gap jumps. The dot never captured our biking like this. The action looks great on your POV action camera, and now with TruMotion data from your XensrCase, you'll know exact details about your jumps, drops and even track your G-loading pumping on the pump track.

Its all about the jumping
Everyone at EpicSesh does a sport that involves jumping and jumping is the most difficult dynamic movement to capture with any sort of consistent precision. The forces involved in a jump are massive. From the launch to the landing and everything in between, you constantly have forces at work that can act on the athlete to speed up, or slow down, their rate of ascent and descent. With all the variables at play, common solutions like "free fall" that assume zero G for the descent are easily broken with rotational forces and are unreliable even under test conditions in the lab. EpicSesh's TruMotion technology examines the forces of acceleration of each axis to determine the precise velocity vector over time which delivers highly precise jump and 3D positional data time and time again.
iPod Touch Transformed
We love the iPod Touch. With the XensrCase attached, we REALLY love the iPod touch as its capabilities are extended into not only all of the sport motion tracking that we do, but also it turns the iPod Touch into a full GPS vehicle
navigation system compatible with most of the popular turn by turn navigation apps available. For those of you that are a little gun shy of using your iPhone in high impact sports, this is your solution! The XensrCase is fully compatible with the iPod Touch, and other than the lack of cell network for live data uploads, the app and capabilities are the same as the iPhone. For the kids - this is a great alternative for them to use on the ski hill, on their wakeboard, skateboard, etc. As parents, we see our kids spending too much time playing games on their iPod Touch's and the XensrCase is the best way to get them active with their iPod Touch.
What about the new Iphone5 and iPod Touch?
In 2003, Apple introduced the 30 pin dock connector on the 3rd generation iPod. Since then, it's been incorporated into hundreds of millions of Apple iDevices and now Apple has announced the new Lightning Connector for the new iPhone5 and iPod Touch. We're already working on a Xensr for the new iPhone5 and iPod Touch and expect to release an official version soon after the original XensrCase ships.The innards are the same - only the connecter and layout has to change. If you select an iPhone5 XensrCase, note that the delivery date will be later than the 4/4S XensrCase's by an estimated 6 to 8 weeks due to the recent release of the iPhone5 and lead times of Lightning connector parts from Apple. Data is cool, no doubt about it, but integrated with video, it's EPIC!!! We have challenges and risks with iOS software development, Apple MFI approval, building distribution and retail channels, scaling the organization, continued hardware development and managing our global team riders and ambassadors. We're able to meet these challenges head on with our varied wealth of experience and skills in all areas of need.
Our founder and CEO has over 30 years of software and hardware development experience and this is his 5th successful startup business. He's scaled businesses from just himself to nearly 100 employees in short order all while keeping an eye on profitability and managing growth. He's built companies that manage thousands of clients world wide - servicing millions of end users in 20+ countries.
Our engineering team is amazing - from mechanical design to EE to firmware development and testing. Rock solid in all areas. We've built so many prototypes its hard to keep track of them. We've proven 100% that this product can be built and can work as desired. We have a great relationship with Apple and while that doesn't give anyone a leg up in MFI approval, we wouldn't be on Kickstarter if we were in doubt of our ability to get approved. There are lead times on some of our components - 8-10 weeks. But by being successful on Kickstarter, we can up our initial orders and with volume, lower our delivery dates of components and get better volume pricing from our suppliers and contract manufacturers.
