Beyond being a punk band composed of 8-12 year olds, Color Killer is a bit of an anomaly. They have not had their marketability judged by Simon Cowell. Ellen DeGeneres has never gawked at their cuteness. They don’t see themselves as a viral sensation—although they are—or novelty act. They are a punk band rising to the top as any punk band would: basement practices, dive bars, and punk festivals.

The problem is of course that they are 8-12 year olds. They take the stage late at night before crowds of unfiltered barflies, the rowdiest of whom are often their parents. They endure grueling rehearsals and recording sessions. The punk rock scene, which many consider on its last legs, is still unforgiving of any act seen as inauthentic. And yet Color Killer is blowing it up.

COLOR KILLER SAVE PUNK, a feature-length documentary, follows Dylan, Lincoln, Matt, and Nate on their arduous journey from middle school talent show to Vans Warped Tour this summer. They are the youngest band ever invited to play. We have been filming Color Killer for four months. We seek the funds on Kickstarter to edit, sound mix, and color correct the film. We plan to world premiere it in 2019.

Our story begins in Marlborough, Massachusetts, a working class suburb of Boston. The film ricochets from the fierce drama of “The Fighter” to the sheer absurdity of “This Is Spinal Tap.” Keep in mind it is a punk rock parable.

We document Color Killer writing, recording, and launching their first album, “Generation Z.” The title refers to America’s first generation with internet technology readily available from a young age. This supposedly makes Generation Z's members detached, unsocial, and unfocused.

Color Killer offers a striking exception to that idea; and perhaps, some much-needed hope for our times.

Seth Kramer, Jeremy Newberger, and Daniel A. Miller (in photo below, left-to-right) are Ironbound Films, the directors of COLOR KILLER SAVE PUNK. Headquartered in an old inn on the Hudson River opposite West Point Military Academy, Ironbound creates documentaries for theaters, television, and the web. Our last film THE ANTHROPOLOGIST, hailed as “utterly winning” by the LA Times and “stealthily insightful” by The NY Times, premiered at DOC NYC, screened at more than 50 film festivals, and won numerous awards. It hit theaters care of Argot Pictures in 2016 and maintains a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. ÉVOCATEUR: THE MORTON DOWNEY JR. MOVIE premiered at Tribeca, hit theaters care of Magnolia Pictures, and aired on CNN in August 2015. It was a NY Times Critics’ Pick and chosen in 2013 as best documentary by NY1; a top-ten movie by LA Weekly; and a top-ten documentary by USA Today and the International Press Academy. Earlier films include THE NEW RECRUITS, which is narrated by Rainn Wilson, aired on PBS, and was nominated for an Emmy in 2011; and THE LINGUISTS, which premiered at Sundance, aired on PBS, and in 2010 was also nominated for an Emmy.

Risks and challenges

There is little risk with regard to the production, completion, and distribution of COLOR KILLER SAVE PUNK. Ironbound Films has just about finished principal photography, and all we need to do at this point is edit the footage into a film.

Ironbound has been creating documentary films for fifteen years. Every production we take on has premiered at a major film festival, run theatrically, aired on a major network, and/or been made available online. Along the way, we have won countless awards, critical acclaim, and at worst, a few grey hairs.
