The Little Prompter concept was developed from my years as a professional actor and director, a high school film and theater instructor, and now as a Media and Design Specialist in higher education where I work directly with faculty to make instructional videos.
As an actor, I used teleprompters for countless commercials and training videos. I used a makeshift teleprompter while flipping my own high school classes. Now, working with college-level faculty at an impressive little liberal arts college in the Midwest, I’m often setting up our large, high-end teleprompter, in our studio. I can’t count the number of time a faculty member has said, “I wish I had one of those in my office!” Therein lies the inspiration for the Little Prompter. Now it’s easy.
The faculty and business professionals I work with are smart. Their content is good. But some still struggle when delivering content on camera. That’s not rare, either. Many people become more self-conscious in front of a camera. To make matters worse, today’s video audiences have little tolerance for unpolished delivery. They’ve been consuming high-quality video produced by professionals their entire lives. So, when a viewer see poor video quality, a halting delivery, and a lack of eye-contact, they dismiss the speaker as insecure, unprofessional, unintelligent. That translates to a drop in engagement, a loss of trust, and poor results.
The Little Prompter was designed with the end-user in mind. My buddy Eric Mistry from St. Scholastica and I pieced our first one together with cardboard and plexiglass, then we 3D-printed an upgraded version that included professional grade 70/30 BeamSplitter teleprompter glass, and finally we worked with a medical device manufacturer to produce the final prototype seen in this KickStarter campaign. It works with a variety of recording devices, it weighs less than a pound, and can easily attach to a tripod . . . or fit in the palm of your hand. It's been labor of love, and this carefully designed tool is ready for the production line. I just need to raise enough funds for a first run--and that's where you can help. The Little Prompter is a tool for online instructors, video bloggers, consultants, and businesses delivering video content to employees or customers, and anyone needing to create online video content. You can learn more about it at LittlePrompter.com, too!

(Oooh. We've also got a patent pending on the Little Prompter. It's already that good!)
Risks and challenges
After months of design, development, and personal investment, the Little Prompter is ready for the production line. We’ve had users in Wisconsin, California, and Minnesota performing extensive testing with versions of the Little Prompter, which led us to the versatile model we have today. We’ve tested with multiple types of laptops, tablets, monitors, webcams, iMacs, DSLRs, mirrorless cameras, and more. Have a question about your device? Just leave a comment for us.
This is actually the 6th iteration of the Little Prompter. We’ve spent the past year refining the models bit-by-bit, and worked with a medical device manufacturer to produce our final professional grade prototype. This is the home stretch. We're gearing up for a big production run, and that’s why we’re on Kickstarter.
Thank you in advance for your help--and I look forward to seeing the videos you create with your Little Prompter! Heck, you could create a KickStarter video for your own Kickstarter project using the Little Prompter!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
