What is Angels of Our Nature about?
As the early days of the American Civil War begin to unfold, battle sketch artist Cale Bacall travels with a regiment of eager yet inexperienced Confederate soldiers into hostile combat, where he must come to terms with his own conflicting ideologies on war and death at the hands of his fellow countrymen. His loyalties are complicated, however, when he recognizes a long lost face from his past, fighting for the Union. It is the face of a cunning and battle hardened soldier who he hasn't seen since he was a young boy -- his twin brother.
Who are we?
We, Corey Allred, Axel Ahrens, Luke Frazier, and Mark Frazier, are four aspiring filmmakers and recent film school graduates who have come together through a shared passion of storytelling. It was in our production classes that we were drawn together and thusly realized our unique and creative connection, which we believe has given us the opportunity to pursue our greatest ambitions. The films we have made so far have proven to us our knowledge and confidence in producing engaging stories. The fact is, we love making films and hope that our viewers enjoy viewing them as much as we do creating them.
(Whoops..."caught" being creative!!)
What inspired us?
This film was a product of a collaboration of ideas from each of us. It began with an idea for doing a period piece based in the West. We came across an article about Civil War sketch artists and that seemed like an interesting and unique idea for a film. This grew into a feasible endeavor, considering that Mark and Luke are from Mississippi and said they had resources available to get this film done. Finally, the idea to have them act as the twins in the film fighting on opposite sides of the war was introduced and the script was immediately written. We looked at sketches from that period and read articles to make sure our script was entertaining whilst maintaing historical accuracy.
For more information as to what has inspired us, check out the article.
What is available to us?
What is available to us is film equipment such as cameras, a small lighting rig and basic audio equipment. In addition to the equipment, we have land to film on for free, we have horses that are personally owned by a family member, as well as connections to authentic Civil War re-enactors who have expressed enthusiasm in helping us. We even have housing covered for the crew members through family connections.

What are we using the funds for?
We are using these funds for basic filmmaking needs like food, travel expenses, etc. We are used to working on films with practically no budget, meaning that we understand how to make every dollar count. However, the budget that we are asking for requires that we cover actors, permits, props, costumes, food, and travel for cast and crew alike. We will be frugal with our budget and every cent donated will go toward bringing this film to fruition.
If we exceed our proposed budget, then we will implement higher production values such as:
1) Better film equipment (i.e. higher resolution cameras, lighting rigs, dollies, etc.)
2) Extend not only the length of the film, but the length and quality of our proposed battle sequences!
3) Pyrotechnics, which will be used as practical effects rather than digitally enhanced visual effects. This will create an outstanding sense of realism, grit, and authenticity.
Why should you fund our idea?
You are not only contributing to a cool idea, you are helping fuel our passion and desire to create captivating and compelling narratives that inspire not only ourselves, but our audiences.
Thank you so much!
We really appreciate your support, and any donation you make will not go to waste! Thanks again, and we look forward to making this film a reality!
Risks and challenges
Filmmaking is always a difficult endeavor to undertake. Problems such as weather, sound obstacles, actor availabilities, and equipment performance can become issues. Some of the challenges that we are facing as young filmmakers are captivating an audience who trust us with the scale of this film. Other challenges might include controlling and directing large groups of extras, and effectively managing large scale productions while not overlooking minor details. If problems do arise we will solve them in a professional and mature manner. But most importantly, despite any potential risks or challenges, nothing will stop us from making this film.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
