Scarlet Huntress Anthology
Here we are! It's taken a long time to get here but we hope you enjoy the new Scarlet Huntress material we've got coming!!!
Scarlet Huntress has been a passion and a long journey for us. We have worked hard to develop the characters, back stories, and story arcs to keep readers interested. The original book, Scarlet Huntress #1, came out in 2006 but Scarlet first appeared in two other anthology books called Portal. After seeing great reviews and success with #1 we took our time developing the next phase of the story and published Scarlet Huntress #2 in 2011. Soon after came the ancillary books Scarlet's Guide to Cryptids and a children's book version Little Red Riding Hood: Origins of a Huntress. People have been asking for more stories and more books so we've come up with this kickstarter to help fund our and everyone else's dreams of seeing more Scarlet Huntress hitting the shelves.
This kickstarter will allow Sean to take time away from other paying work to finish the art on the new Scarlet Huntress book. The stories have been written, and cover is done, and now we just need the time and the money to finish the art and get it published and into the hands of readers. People all over the country and some international readers have been asking for new material, but it's hard to justify getting the art finished when we also need to put food on the table and stay afloat as a family. This is where the wonderful idea of kickstarter comes in - it allows us to seek funds to help produce this awesome new work!
This new book is a collection of 3 stories, each of which have a very different theme and style because they've been written by 3 different writers (John Barker, Bryan (Stratos) K. Borgman, and regular Scarlet Huntress writer Stephanie Forney. Below you will find a description of each story and a short bio on each of the people involved in the new book.
Story #1 - The Hollow - by John Barker Scarlet finds herself hunting werewolves in a small town in Siberia. But she soon discovers that werewolves aren't the enemy in this case... it's something bigger and blood-thirsty, a cryptid beast who will not be stopped easily.
John Barker is an award winning poet, and author of the critically acclaimed Arcana Studios graphic novel, The Dead Cell. With story telling described as deeply layered and dark, John is also the author of an award winning series of essays on the philosophy of theology, and is a Doctor of Divinity. John has several other projects soon to see solicitation including, “The Dark”, “Avery Vernum and the Monsters on the Sun” and “Army of Pharaohs”, all of which are sure to continue to explore the deepest, darkest corners of the human psyche.
Story #2 - Enter the Huntress - by Bryan K. Borgman This story takes us into the future with Scarlet, where she is well-established as a werewolf huntress and has begun working with the Special Mission Force (an organization that works to fight all various kaiju monsters in our world).
Bryan K. Borgman(aka Stratos) is the founder of Bailey Records and creator of Kaiju Kaos - The Miniatures Game. The two-time award-nominated recording artist/soundtrack composer has worked on dozens of projects over the past decade, including CyberNet, Warlands, Rezolution, Pulp City, Spycraft, and more. Stratos will serve as executive producer of "This is Scarlet Huntress", a soundtrack EP that is one of the stretch goals of this kickstarter. Stratos will also serve as primary composer and producer of the entire album. In addition to music duties, Stratos is offering metal and resin miniatures from his Kaiju Kaos game as additional stretch goals. The gaming miniatures include Scarlet Huntress sculpted by Fiendish Fabrications and Vincent Malakov (aka the Big Bad Wolf) in werewolf form sculpted by Bryan Steele, plus kickstarter-exclusive limited edition resin castings of Atticus the Wicked Werewolf sculpted by Steven Patt. For Stratos's discography, visit www.baileyrecords.com. For more information on Kaiju Kaos, visit www.kaijukaos.com or check both out on Facebook.
Story #3 - by Stephanie Forney This story will be a continuation where issue #2 leaves us - after Scarlet's first kill she starts to do more and seeks out the hiding places of werewolves in order to find out more about them.
Stephanie Forney is co-creator of Scarlet Huntress with husband Sean. Steph wrote Scarlet Huntress #1, Scarlet Huntress #2, Scarlet's Guide to Cryptids, and Little Red Riding Hood: Origins of a Huntress (which she also did the artwork for). Together the Forney's both travel around the country to comic book conventions promoting Scarlet Huntress and Sean's other professional work. Steph is a visual arts teacher who works at a high school in central Ohio and also a co-founder of Help for Heroes, a start-up non-profit that focuses on helping comic book artists fighting cancer. Through Help for Heroes, Steph creates the SuperPigs - ceramic piggy banks designed to look like super heroes and other characters from pop culture. When she's not working on Help for Heroes stuff or Scarlet Huntress stuff she is always drawing or writing.

HERE'S THE NEW COVER of SCARLET HUNTRESS ANTHOLOGY!
Meet Scarlet...the live action version!
Our lovely muse for Scarlet is model Brianne Jeanette from Columbus, Ohio. Brianne Jeanette has been the inspiration for Scarlet since 2008 and has created some beautiful images for Scarlet over the years. We couldn't picture anyone else as Scarlet - Bri is just like Scarlet - a hard-nosed determined young woman with a lot of spunk and charisma. We hope you love the photos as much as we do! Here's a link to Brianne Jeanette's Facebook page and Model Mayhem site.
The photos below are a sampling of what will come with the print incentive packages that include the 11" x 17" Photo Prints. The photos were shot by the amazing Renee Needham. You can see more of Renee's awesome photography work at her website.

Here's a look at the artwork for the t-shirt designs and tote bags. We're still playing around with color choices a little and whether or not to put the logo on it. Let us know what you think! The tote bag dimensions are 19" x 15" x 6" and made of canvas - large enough to hold all your convention stuff! The t-shirts come in all sizes up to 3x (we may be able to get larger ones) and the art will be printed on a dark shirt - the werewolf on a dark blue and Scarlet on a dark gray.
A little history...
For those of you who aren't already fans please read these descriptions of the first and second issue of Scarlet Huntress to wet your appetite for more!
Here's a video slideshow we had a few years ago at Comic-Con International! It's got a preview of a lot of the earlier art from SH1, concept designs and pinups, cosplay, and pinups from various other comic book artists. All the art on the video is pre-2010 before issue 2 was released. The video was put together by videographer/editor Richard Katterjohn of Underground Video Network. Make sure you visit their site and their facebook page!

Risks and challenges
There are many challenges in self publishing any book, from the creative process of developing the story, art and production to the business side of funding, networking and promoting. We know that to get the high quality of art and story that we want and that our readers deserve we will be releasing the book when it is ready, within less than a years time. Our biggest challenge right now is funding. That’s why we are here on Kickstarter. If we can meet our Kickstarter goal (or surpass it), we can devote our full time to getting this issue done and getting new art done to promote it. Our risks and challenges are basically everyday life. We are full-time artists, juggling a few projects to keep a roof over our loved ones. This is what drives us and we love it. Making our deadlines is something we strive for everyday. The other challenges that may arise are shipment schedules that come with dealing with our vendors/suppliers. We will do our best to make sure things go smoothly as possible. These risks and challenges aren't something new to us, but a very familiar, and we will do everything in our power to get everything produced, manufactured, and in your hands as soon as possible.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
