Choose to Cook Magazine - for busy people who would like to improve their health habits

About the magazine

Choose to Cook Magazine is a monthly publication dedicated to helping busy individuals and families improve their health through easy, time and budget-friendly home cooking.

Within the magazine, there will be sections addressing all aspects of healthy living and eating.

Each month we will share expert advice to help readers identify exactly HOW & WHY certain foods can eliminate some of the nation’s top health concerns.

Through various methods, we will call attention to foods that are the most likely causes of your worst health nightmares and offer simple strategies to crowd them out of your life without ever the suffering from overwhelming cravings.

The magazine will also help new home cooks get more familiar with their kitchen, offering techniques and suggestions for simple, basic and common kitchen tools.

Each issue will include 5 unique sections of recipes, focusing on some of the most popular eating plans. There will be 25+ recipes per issue, and it will be supplemented with shopping lists to make trips to the grocery store quick, easy, and even fun.

There will even be tips to help busy, budget-consicious individuals save HOURS of their time and up to 50% off their grocery bills.

Finally, one of the most important components of the magazine will be including real life examples of individuals and families who are changing their eating habits right now to incorporate more healthy meals.

This magazine is a collaboration

Each word written within this publication is volunteered out of the genuine desire to share the joy of cooking and health. None of the contributors are paid for their submissions, nor are they able to pay to secure a position.

The columns within the magazine will always be written by real people who are either in the process of repairing their eating habits, or have already gone through the journey to taking control of food.

We will share tested and successful tricks to get picky eaters begging for more fruits and even vegetables in their meals.

There will be true stories of life threatening diseases being completely reversed through simple food changes and easy lifestyle choices.

There will be also be health and wellness industry professionals providing their experience with and opinions about trends and fads that hit the media on a daily basis.

This magazine is a no-ad zone

One of the elements that will truly set the Choose to Cook Magazine apart from other cooking magazines currently available on the market is the complete decidation to offering a 100% ADVERTISEMENT FREE experience. Paid advertising is simply NOT available within the pages of this publication. Every page is wholly dedicated to producing quality content that is not tainted by financial gain.

Each column, recipe and section of the magazine is curated and hand-picked by the editor and owner, Monique Nelson, based on a focus on presenting real, actionable, tested and scientific advice for the audience. Each of the recipes are chosen and developed taking 4 specific goals into consideration:

  • healthy
  • budget-friendly
  • easy
  • time conscious

From the topics covered and the contributing authors, to the ingredients within each recipe, to the accessiblity of the magazine itself, the overall goal of the Choose to Cook Magazine is to provide the highest quality of advice and guidance possible. This magazine is created by people just like you - with busy lives, picky families, tight budgets and no time to fuss around with fad diets that don’t work and make no sense. Every single issue of this magazine will provide proven strategies for improving health with every single meal.

Publication

The magazine will be made available across as many platforms as possible. To start, this will include apps for:

  • iPhone (App Store)
  • Android (Google Play)
  • Kindle Fire (Amazon)
  • Print (platform yet to be determined)

After the Kickstarter campaign, single issues will be available for as little as $2.99 USD for digital copies and subscriptions will be available for 6 months, or 12 months at time. 

During the Kickstarter Campaign you will have the chance to lock in a 1 year, 12 month digital subscription for as low as $9! That is an almost 75% discount off the newsstand price, which will start May 8th, 2016.

What the Funds Will Be Used For

As you can see, even the very first funding level of $1 gets a FULL ISSUE of the digital first edition of this magazine. The Choose to Cook Magazine will be available through 3 major Apps - Apple, Google & Amazon - which each require individual App Development.

$3588 USD - The cost of the development for these apps to ensure 12 months of delivery.

The Choose to Cook Magazine will also be available through Print Subscriptions. The costs of printing and shipping each issue will range from $11 - $20 per issue, depending on location and volume ordered. It is impossible to give a FIRM number here, as it will depend entirely on the amount of subscriptions requested for print. Considering the rewards levels for a print edition begin at $15, you can see we will be barely covering costs with this campaign.

$1000+ - Promoting through Kickstarter costs 5% of total funding.

The costs of developing the magazine have thus far been entirely pro bono. The articles & recipes have been voluntarily submitted, the layout, editing and design have been completed at no charge by Monique Nelson, the publisher behind the magazine and this Kickstarter Campaign.

There have also been marketing costs associated with the launch of a magazine and Kickstarter Campaign, which have been covered entirely by Monique. A successful funding of this campaign will essentially cover costs already committed. Any remainder will be applied to future marketing costs to continue promoting the magazine after the launch.

This Kickstarter Campaign is entirely non-profit; all funding raised will go to the quality and distribution of the Magazine itself.

Risks and challenges

The publication date for the first issue of Choose to Cook Magazine is scheduled for May 8th, 2016.

The digital version is going to be available on iPhones, Androids and for the Amazon Kindle Fire. The actual release date may vary slightly due to acceptance through each provider, but we are doing everything possible to make the launch date apply to everyone!

First edition Print copies will not be ordered until May 8th, so delivery times will vary based on production and shipping times. There is likely to be a 1 month+ lead time from publication date to receipt of your print copies.

Once this Kickstarter campaign is complete, issues and subscriptions will be available at an increased price.

One of the main challenges has been figuring out how to properly get the message out to as many people as possible.
