About this project
"A Time After Yesterday" (ATAY) is the first feature film written and directed by 23 year old Cathryn Stanley. ATAY tells the dramatic tale of two teenage girls from different backgrounds, who experience great loss and struggle to survive and overcome the hardships of life.
"There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you" (Maya Angelou). Cathryn was inspired to write this provocative screenplay based upon her own life experiences coping with loss, as well as, her observations of human behavior. She intentionally uses the film to focus on complex relationships that exist between people of various socio-economic statuses, modern family dynamics and resilience. In ATAY, Cathryn also explores the underlying themes of pride, loneliness, rejection and an increasingly growing societal ill - homelessness. The riveting story Cathryn weaves through ATAY results in the discovery: when we gain insight into human relations we realize people share commonalities, and we can reap the benefits of corporate interdependence.
ATAY is currently in production. We have approximately one month left to raise the funds needed to complete this project. This is where you come in. You can take an active part in the production of the film "A Time After Yesterday" by pledging any amount in increments of $5.00 - $5,000.00. No amount is too small, and no amount is too great! But, we do ask that you give your best. We greatly appreciate any and all support for this important project.
About the film
"A Time After Yesterday" (ATAY) is a feature-length film. ATAY tells the dramatic tale of two teenage girls, from different socio-economic backgrounds and family structures, who experience significant loss in unpredictable and traumatic ways. The film shares the journey of the girls' struggle to overcome their inner hate in order to find their way to love, healing and the bonds of true friendship.
Who is behind ATAY?
"A Time After Yesterday" is written and directed by Cathryn Stanley, of Big Sis/Lil Sis Entertainment Company. The company is founded and operated by two talented sisters, Cathryn Stanley - 23, and her older sister, Christina Stanley - 25. The dynamic duo are from Irvington, NJ, and they have shared a love of the performing arts for over 19 years. They both managed to balance schoolwork with acting when they were both featured in the Cranford Repertory Theater's production of the Wizard of Oz, while they were attending middle school. They also share the same passion to make a positive impact on today's youth. The two sisters have been particularly fond of volunteering their time to assist students attending the school at the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center. They have provided one-on-one tutoring in all academic subjects, choreographed for many of the school productions, and given acting lessons as an extension of the Language Arts program. Staying true to their commitment to youth, Big Sis/Lil Sis Entertainment Company is giving students from the Cicely Tyson School of the Performing Arts in East Orange, NJ and the NJIT Consortium in Newark, NJ, an opportunity to perform in "A Time After Yesterday."
Cathryn is a Jersey girl who currently resides in New York City. She attended Columbia University on a full tuition scholarship. Cathryn recently graduated from Columbia University's Teachers College earning dual Master's degrees in Education. The BA in Psychology that she earned at Hampton University gave her the insight that she needed to provide drama and dance therapy for incarcerated youth in New Jersey. Her performing arts training and experience at the Pingry School gave her a state of the art foundation and fine-tuned her music, dance and acting skills. Cathryn is also an experienced Off-Broadway singer, dancer, actress, playwright, director and producer. She wrote, directed and produced her first play, Down the River, at age 21. This captivating dramatic play with dance ran from the end of the summer of 2010 throughout the winter of 2010, in New York City and in Northern New Jersey. The play received rave reviews and encore performances are still being requested.
Christina has resided in Los Angeles, CA, since she drove cross-country, from New Jersey, two and a half years ago. She attended the University of Delaware and Rutgers University, where she majored in marketing and had a minor in theater. Christina is a talented actress, dancer and choreographer. She moonlights as a Personal Assistant to the Co-Founder/Managing Director of the Edgemar Center for the Arts in Santa Monica, CA. Christina is also known as a marketing mastermind with extensive experience as a General Manager for a radio station in Delaware, as a Marketing Assistant for an entertainment company in Montclair, New Jersey, and as a Marketing Coordinator for a sports health center in Los Angeles. Christina gives a riveting performance as a leading character in A Time After Yesterday. She began her intense performing arts training at Newark Academy's IB Theater and advanced dance programs from 7th through 12th grades.

Making a feature-length independent film is very exciting, a lot of work, and a very costly project. There are numerous costs involved including: location permits, actor and crew salaries, cinematographer fees, attorney & accountant consulting fees, camera equipment, prop rental, and the fees of post-production personnel - such as editors, visual effects artists, and musical score technician.

How Can I Help?
We're so glad you asked! This is where you come in. In order for this project to reach its full potential and completion we are going to need your help. There are many costs involved with filming a feature and while many people have gifted and discounted rates, we still have a lot of costs to cover. Music and post-production costs are of great importance and also great expense. Upon completion of the project, with the proper funding, we will be able to submit this project to film festivals and potentially have a chance to distribute this powerful film nationwide.
"A Time After Yesterday" is an incredible story that you can take an active role in the production of the film by pledging any amount in the increments listed, $5.00 - $5,000.00, in the column on the right. You will be eligible to receive rewards exclusive to those pledging through this page. Take a look at the rewards column on the right. We have approximately one month left to raise the funds needed to complete this project. Will you join us? No amount is too small, and no amount is too great, everything helps! But, we do ask that you give your best. Please Support today. ALL contributions are GREATLY appreciated! Thank you.
Do you have to reach your goal?
Yes. We need to reach or exceed our goal in order to keep any of the pledges for the film. If we don’t reach our goal, no one will be charged for their pledge and it will be as if the whole thing never happened. It’s all or nothing!
What happens if you exceed the goal amount?
So happy you asked! Total production costs are estimated between $30,000 - $50,000. So, if we exceed our fundraising goal on Kickstarter we will use the money to offset the remainder of the post-production expenses, such as: editing, music scores, and submitting the finished project to major film festivals.
