In 2013 I Kickstarted one of my favorites of all my books, Forgotten Suns. The most common question everyone has asked since is, “Will there be a sequel?”
Yes, there is! We’re back, with more ancient mysteries, more marvels and piracies, and more sentient starships (plural!)—with new characters along with the old favorites, and a new adventure across space, subspace, and the multiverse.
The mystery of the planet Nevermore has been solved, but that solution has raised a whole new set of questions—and won a whole new set of both allies and enemies for the ancient and formerly abandoned world and the humans who struggle to preserve it.
Haven’t read Forgotten Suns? No problem. We have a reward tier for that. Grab your kit and come along. We’re headed back out into space.

WE MADE IT! We're funded! The backer who brought us over the top will receive a special reward. And now let's have some fun.
And now we'vepassed $6000. The backers' edition of The Stars Beneath will include a prequel story. This story, "Fool's Errand," was published in Analog In December/January of 2014/2015--and just for backers, I'll add a special bonus scene, never before published. The backer who brought us over the top will be a character in this scene.
Aaaannddd: the next goal is unlocked. We've made it to $6500. The backer whose pledge brought us there will be a character in The Stars Beneath. There's a tradeship captain, you see, and an officer who has a certain role to play. Good or bad? She'll tell me--and all backers will see.
Here's a taste of what's to come:
The message came in through one of the tradeships. Lugalbanda was small enough to dock earthside in Alexandria, and just legal enough to avoid the latest round of sanctions against piracy. It was also family.
Aisha was nose down in end-of-term nonsense. She almost ignored the ping on the worldweb from Cousin [XXXX]. But she’d reached the point of boiling brain cells, and if she spent one more nanosecond bouncing between student papers and Gobeklian iconography, she would go nuclear.
We've passed $7000! The forces of evil gather, evil villains of evil who torture space whales for fun and profit. One of those dastardly characters is one of our backers.
UNLOCKED: at $7500, a whole new story. Backers can decide: sequel to "Fool's Errand," or totally new story with space whales. Or--both.
Now aiming for $8000! I will shoot a video with the horses and the dog, and personally thank you all. The backer who puts us there will bump up a reward tier, whatever level that backer backs at. (Say that ten times fast.)
If we reach $9,000, backers at $250 and above will receive a trade paperback edition of The Stars Beneath. Backers in lower tiers may order the book at cost plus shipping.
Let's see how high we can fly!
Risks and challenges
As with all creative projects, Life can be known to intervene. I've set a long deadline, with plenty of breathing room, and set the earliest reward delivery dates to accommodate my 2014 project, Horses of the Moon, which is on target for its December fulfillment. As a longtime working author, I'm used to balancing books in various stages of development, so there should be no problems. If there are delays or obstacles along the road, I'll keep everyone informed.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
