Here's a game flow diagram to help you understand how Halfling Wars works. It's all about battling your creatures online. This visual explains how every other part of the game, including growing crops/herbs and designing your city, is built around preparing your creatures for battle. The outcome of the battle is largely dependent on how well you prepare. Any questions?

We’re gamers. We always have been. We’re not trying to get rich here, our goal is to create an awesome free-to-play gaming experience that combines the best elements of town-building games with online creature battling and questing from role-playing games. And that’s exactly what we’ve created with Halfling Wars.
Halfling Wars is a free-to-play fantasy RPG/Simulation game inspired by The Hobbit and similar to Dragonvale, Smurf's Village, Pokemon, Civilization, SimCity, and even A Kingdoms for Keflings. But Halfling Wars is darker, has a more engrossing story, an epic online battling system, a deeper questing system, and several styles of gameplay. This is NOT a Farmville game! And NOT a Facebook game! You can continually play Halfling Wars at the normal gameplay rate without spending a penny! We have created a really cool world that you can build and develop, but that is the smallest part of Halfling Wars. It's all about the Battles!

Halflings have lived in The Crest for as long as anyone can remember. It is one of the oldest Halfling communities on Earth. 5 generations ago, (nearly 150 years) the eldest of a particularly prominent family in The Crest, Bristol Darting, was brought to a community trial on the accusations of the use of dark magic. Whether or not he was guilty, no one ever found out as during the course of the trial he was hit on the head with a large turnip, and instantly died. (No one ever found out who threw the deadly turnip, but it was widely believed it sprang from –and did indeed come from the general direction of- Balbus Widebottom, who had recently come in second place in the annual pumpkin growing contest to Mr. Darting).
Most of the townspeople believed Mr. Darting was guilty and that the fortuitous turnip only confirmed such, however there were some, including his family and close friends, that fought adamantly in his defense to the point of causing much contention and even an uprising. The contentions grew so bad in fact that all the “Dartings”, (or “Darklings” as they began to be called), were rumored to be involved in dark magic, and were eventually forced out of their village, shunned by other villages, and were forced to find refuge across the chasm, in the most unfarmable, murkiest land in the nethermost parts of the Crest. They are still living there today, still mostly shunned by civilized Crest society, living only amongst themselves, and still believing they were cheated out of their lands and reputation.
Our main goal was to create something fun and unique - a perfect blend of both light and dark for each player's experience. On one side the player is a gentle, jolly, good-natured Halfling who prefers nothing more than growing anything green, smoking pipe weed, or drinking a nice ale. On the other side the user plays as a Darkling, a bitter mischievous creature who prefers the twilight hours to go about his business. Instead of giving the player the option of which creature to play, we allow them to do both at the same time… after all there is a little Halfling and Darkling in all of us.
You’ll come across a variety of characters during your gameplay. Wizards, Guardians, strange elves and even Balbus Widebottom.
Halfling Wars is filled with perils of unsavory nature. Goblins, Trolls, Orc’s oh my… Your characters also grow and train powerful beasts to fight off the enemy, or to take into battle against friends or foe.
Halfling Wars has an exceptional team of artists led by Darrin Perry whose talent and vision is beyond comparison. His artwork draws inspiration from other masters of the Fantasy genre like Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Dungeons and Dragons, and more. Our goal was to make the artwork compliment the main story of Halfling Wars while telling its own story at the same time. We are very fortunate to have Darrin Perry on our team. The quality of his artwork speaks for itself when you see it.
Check out Darrin's Website and Deviant Art page to see more of his brilliant artwork and comic book illustrations unrelated to Halfling Wars. Also we will update this Kickstarter page with more HW artwork as the game progresses.
We need help to raise some extra money to improve our users' experience. We would like to add additional levels, more mini games, upgraded sound production, a customized soundtrack, and more play testing. All the little things that add richness to a game and that we know will make players smile (the devil is in the details). We will also use the money to help promote and market Halfling Wars to better get the word out. We already have lots of cool ideas for our V.2., but none of it will exist until V.1. is successful. Your input is very important to our team while we strive to make an awesome gaming experience.
We are a small Utah based company who’s sole purpose was to accomplish one thing; create a cool game. I guess to sum it up we are a bunch of gaming geeks who have spent way too many hours glued to everything from the old school apple II or Nintendo 64, to the xbox or iPad. When we aren’t actually playing games more likely than not we are probably talking about building one. Well the day has finally come to make our debut into gaming existence.

Here at ChondroStrike we are extremely honored to develop a game like Halfling Wars that we are sure everyone will enjoy. We really appreciate all the support we can get and for those who spread the word about this Kickstarter campaign. Please make sure to check out the official Halfling Wars website along with our Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube pages listed above for continual updates about the game's progress. For those who do contribute, we promise to ship rewards promptly and we are sure the rewards will meet your satisfaction. Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to launching Halfling Wars in the Apple store.
Risks and challenges
The ChondroStrike team as already logged over a year's worth of work on Halfling Wars. We have invested a lot of our own money into the game which shows our level of commitment to finishing the game and getting all the details right. We are pleased with the results so far but we are also committed to making the game the most perfect gaming experience for our gamers as possible. We've already finished enough of the game to be confident that it will ship early spring 2013. With Kickstarter's help and support, we can not only launch the game on time but also make a better, more engaging game and reach a wider audience at the same time.
After working on Halfling Wars for over a year, we realize that there will be challenges and risks along the way. We have experienced many already and are prepared to face additional challenges in the future. No matter what challenges come our way we WILL for sure launch Halfling Wars on the App store and hopefully expand to the Android market for those Android users.
Your generous support will minimize all these risks, make it easier to face challenges and get those well-deserved rewards shipped out to you in a timely manner. Thank you!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Halfling Wars will be FREE to download when it hits the App store, so anyone can get a copy of the game at that time. But we are giving out bonus material and extra gameplay in the starter packs that is discounted on Kickstarter and well below retail value. The Beta copy is for those who want to test the game and share input to improve the game. Everyone who backs Halfling Wars automatically becomes a tester.
Both starter packs come with gold, sparks, and consumables you need to level-up in the game, purchase creatures, buildings, or crops, and strengthen your creatures for battle. It would take you 15-30 hours of playing time to accumulate the same items and gold that come included in the starter packs.
Halfling Wars is part simulation and part role-playing. The simulation gameplay is the farming crops, building villages, and breeding creatures. The role-playing gameplay is battling friends online, betting and gambling on battles, potion creation/mixing, and questing. We were inspired by The Hobbit and LOTR movies. Games it's like - Dragonvale, Smurf's Village, Pokemon, The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle Earth.
There are two aspects to leveling in Halfling Wars. You can level-up your creatures you create and you can level-up your Halfling or Darkling you're playing as. You level-up creatures by feeding them, giving them tasks to complete successfully, and battling to name a few. You level-up as a Halfling or Darkling by growing and harvesting crops, building your village, collecting gold as a merchant, completing mini-games, quests, and tasks. But that just touches the surface. We have plans to add on more levels and ways of leveling-up in the game.
You get to play as a Darkling once you've reached level 4, so you start out as a Halfling. But once you reach level 4 you can play both characters at the same time if you choose. Each character has their own distinct villages, crops, creatures, quests, and storyline. So the Darkling opens up the game a lot.
Crops: turnips, pipe-weed, mushrooms, pumpkins, and tons of special herbs and plant. We don't want to give all our secrets away just yet. You'll find out more in the game.
Buildings: stables, taverns, inns, caves, homes, blacksmith, apothecary, and more. See our updates for more info on these and images of how they look.
One of the most unique features of Halfling Wars is the battle betting system. When you go to battle with your creature, you can make a bet or gamble. At the start of the battle, the game asks you if you want to make a bet on the battle. You can choose to bet gold, crops, sparks, other consumables, and even the life of your creature. If you win the battle and bet, then your opponent gives you everything he bet and visa versa. There are also other prizes you get for winning a battle. We can't wait for people to try this out! It's one of the best parts of the game.
Unity 3D. It's one of the most widely used game engines for the iOS platform. Also we liked Unity 3D because of how simple it is to develop it once and publish it across many platforms. So publishing to Android although costs extra money and takes time, is fairly easy with Unity 3D. That's why we partnered with Spirit 5 Studios because of their experience with Unity 3D.
Essentially you can play Halfling Wars for free indefinitely. There are in-game purchases like extra consumables, sparks, gold, potions, creatures, upgrades, and starter packs. At any time anyone can purchase those items to speed up the game, level-up more quickly, buy a creature without putting in the extra hours, and basically accelerate the gameplay.
