HELP US REACH OUR STRETCH GOALS!

STRETCH GOAL #1: to secure a cameo from a leading UK actor to give the film even broader appeal. We need to exceed by £1500

STRETCH GOAL #2: to film three very exciting scenes that require complex special effects, currently out of our reach. We need to exceed by £5750 to film these safely

Who Killed Nelson Nutmeg? is a kids' film, for kids, with kids in the lead roles!

It's a fun mystery-adventure reminiscent of the films we loved when we were younger - think Children's Film Foundation, The Goonies, Flight of the Navigator, Explorers, BMX Bandits, and the like.

And just like those great films, Who Killed Nelson Nutmeg? is an original story with original characters that's been created exclusively for this overlooked (yet in demand) genre.

You can read more about the story and characters on the official website.

We've been busy writing the script, confirming the stunning location, casting the kids and getting a special rig for the Blackmagic camera we'll be using. The project has picked up great momentum with support from the industry and our local community: Nigel Cole (director of Made in Dagenham, Calendar Girls, Doc Martin) is on board as a consultant and mentor, and Discover Dorset are supporting the film with use of their transport vehicles. We are filming at the same location as the BAFTA-winning Broadchurch, which is Freshwater Beach Holiday Park in Bridport.

We have also spoken to the British Film Institute, who are keen to support and promote this kind of film - and we've become patrons of the Children's Media Foundation as we believe that children deserve good drama.

Our own funds, resources and industry network have taken us this far, now we need your help!

The location
The location

Our fundraising target is to cover our day-to-day production costs. These include: transport, catering, insurance and costume/art department, not to mention the special considerations that are in place with regard to filming with children (shorter days/chaperones etc).

The Kickstarter total is what we need to get this film in the can. We hope you'll support us so that we can continue this wild and whacky adventure!

We have two stretch goals in mind to take us even further:

STRETCH GOAL #1: to secure a cameo from a leading UK actor to give the film even broader appeal.

STRETCH GOAL #2: to film three very exciting scenes that require complex special effects, currently out of our reach.

Risks and challenges

We believe this film and its genre is in demand by the market, but our challenge is to achieve the film on the low budget that we've had to set ourselves. Setting the film entirely in one location helps a lot but once the film is made, getting it noticed by the target audience (6-9 year olds) and the wider industry will be key to the film's success. However, we're not trying to compete with the big Hollywood blockbusters; we're aiming for the instant download/streaming market (Netflix/iTunes etc) and DVD. Low budget and the instant download market doesn't mean compromising on quality and we'll be striving to make the funniest, most entertaining kids' film we possibly can within our tight filmmaking parameters.

With a combination of our own money, existing resources, generosity of the crew (and the Kickstarter funds), we can meet the required budget.
