We have reached our Issue #1 goal, so we've decided to aim for a stretch goal to fund Issue #2. If we reach it we can go straight from the production and printing of one issue to the other. Tell your friends, tell your family, tell complete strangers, The Crayfish Kickstarter is still alive and well!
Hello everyone, we are here to raise funds to produce and print THE CRAYFISH - ISSUE #1, a 100% Australian action/adventure/hero comic. It'll be 32 pages of incredible storytelling, superbly-stylised artwork, guest pin-ups and behind the scenes info! Read on for more details!
The year is 1950. The place, King Island, Australia. Norman Williams -- a hearing-impaired, WWII veteran -- lives with his technollogicaly and mechanically savvy younger brother Gerald on the failing family farm. Over the years King Island has become increasingly targeted for its abundance of natural resources, array of possibly bountiful shipwrecks and other such riches. Norman will do anything to stop those that wish to destroy the island, and its inhabitants' way of life. An aim which can only be achieved, by becoming The Crayfish.
Cameron R. D. Laird (CREATOR/WRITER) and Adam Rose (ARTIST) are two young comic creatives hoping to make their mark on the Australian comic scene with a new, self-published, creator-owned, comic series!
Cameron is from Melbourne and has written short stories, short/feature screenplays and award-winning stageplays. His writing is dark, stylised, unusually comedic and emotionally charged. This is his second foray into comic writing and he has loved every minute of it. He can't wait to share The Crayfish with the world. More info on Cameron can be found here: facebook.com/cameronrdlairdwriter
Adam has previously worked on the Killeroo: Gangwars Anthology and The Crayfish is his second comic. He still can't believe that people may actually pay him to do something he has loved since he was a kid. He is currently based in Brisbane and loves intense, long-winded discussions about movies and comics. He also has a mild obsession with collecting obscure action figures and 80s horror movies. More of Adam's artwork can be viewed here: comic-adam.deviantart.com
They have also teamed up with Drew Close (LETTERER). Drew likes writing comics, movies and tv series. He also enjoys watching tv series and playing Xbox. He also likes lettering comics and really, really likes fonts but not in a creepy serial killer kind of way… unless you use comic sans to letter your comic. Check out some past work here: facebook.com/darcstormlettering
The money raised through Kickstarter will be used for: Printing Costs (Comics, Posters, Magnets, Stickers, etc). Shipping Costs. Payment for letterer. Production of Issue #2.
Risks and challenges
We at Crayfish HQ don't believe there are any risks involved with the production of this comic, we have worked hard and will continue to do so until The Crayfish reaches the shelves of Australian comic readers. The challenges involved include stitching together a final product that we are happy with and that readers will be happy with, a book that they will finish and want to read again straight away. Another challenge will be making sure the quality of printing is at a high enough standard that we think is suitable and does justice to our creation. Long story short, pledgers will not receive a comic that we wouldn't be happy to receive ourselves.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
