About this project
Bent and Broken
We started thinking about this remix album as far back as 2008, when we started on our album Two Headed Monster. And now it's finally nearing completion!!
Bent and Broken is a "double" remix album, which will be comprised of 2 CDs, (or one giant download), and consist of 26 songs for over 130 minutes of music! The songs being remixed come from our albums, Counting to Zero, and Two Headed Monster. "Bonus tracks" for the album consist of a new song that we wrote specifically for the album, (also called "Bent and Broken)", as well as a covers of the Queen song "She Makes Me", and the song "Orgy" from Robert Smith's The Glove project. (The full tracklisting is on the bottom of this page)
Most of our albums take us somewhere around a year (to two years) to make. This album, although it is a "remix album" still took about seven months from start to finish. It started with bouncing down stems, (or song parts) of almost every song on Counting to Zero and Two Headed Monster. That took the better part of January.
In February, we started a remix contest, allowing anyone to try their hand at remixing. People were given the choice of three songs to remix. The contest ended with us getting in a lot of really great remixes. After choosing the winners, we decided that there were a handful of mixes that, (although the parts and ideas of the remix were great) could use an extra bit of expert studio production. So Statik took those remixes and spent some time giving them some additional special love--so there are some remixes of the remixes, so to speak.
Other than the contest winners, we have some special guest remixers appearing on the album, including cEvin Key/Ken 'HiWatt" Marshall, (Skinny Puppy), Chris Vrenna (Tweaker), and Shikhee (Android Lust.)
Statik also did his own remix of the song "Mind Games". We also did (what we think) is a cover of "She Makes Me". It's our first cover of a Queen song, which is one of Statik's favorite groups. It was a tough one to tackle, and we hope we did it justice. We also did a cover of the song "Orgy", which was a Robert Smith song from his Glove project. It was a song that kaRIN loved and would often hear from her days at local clubs. We had thought about doing this song for a long time, so it was quite fun to do.
At this point, we have turned all of the songs and remixes to be mastered, which is one of the final steps in completing an album. This time around, we are using Ken 'HiWatt' Marshall (who worked on one of the remixes with cEvin Key, and who has done engineering and mixing for Skinny Puppy for many years, as well as countless other projects.
We're planning a 10 page booklet to go into the CD package, that will include a special thank-you list of supporters who contribute to this Kickstarter (see rewards). We also have a great poster in mind that was done for Bent and Broken. We are planning a double sided poster with the other side being the album cover.
Besides designing a special t-shirt for this release, we're also in the process of doing a limited edition, specially designed black aluminum USB drive with a laser engraved logo and a special aluminum presentation case.
We hope your as excited by this release as we are, and we can't wait to share it with you!!
The Costs of putting out an album:
As many of you know the music industry has fallen apart, leaving musicians struggling to figure out how to continue making music and still be able to support themselves and pay bills. Some of the costs associated with putting out this album include the several paid and trade guest remixers, the 18 remixers who entered our contest and who will each will win prizes in merchandise. The other costs include mastering, CD pressing, artwork printing, cover song licensing, photo shoots, press and advertising, promotion, postage for sending the CD to magazines and clubs and so on and so on. The absolute minimum cost to release this CD will be approx. $12,000 which does not include our time working on it, or the fact that we have many bills to pay to be able to continue update equipment etc.
We are already well on the way to making this album a reality, and so far each bit has been out of our pocket. No matter what happens here, this CD will still be released. This Kickstarter will affect whether we can afford to continue making music in the future. These days, sadly, as soon as a CD is released it gets on the open market, uploaded to file-sharing sites, and then there are very few sales after the release. We know that if this CD is to recover costs at all and help us be able to continue making music, that most of the sales happen even before the CD is released. We're asking for your support through this Kickstarter and selecting from the special rewards offered, or even making a donation to help us continue making music.
Please show your support for the music that you love. Any amount helps and is appreciated. We make tons of super cool items that you can have shipped to you. Help us spread the word.

A little history of Collide:
We have been an independent band almost since our beginning. We released our first album Beneath the Skin in 1996 through Cargo Records, and released a remix album with them the next year. It was then, when we decided we were done dealing with record companies. We found that we were buying copies of our own music (to sell) and not being paid royalties by the record company. So technically, we were paying them more than they were paying us. It made us make the decision to start our own record label and do everything ourselves.
Since that time we've paid for all of the costs of making our albums and everything else associated with it. We've made and funded a handful of videos, as well as a DVD.
Running our own record label has been very challenging. We've dealt with a handful of distribution companies to help get our albums out to the world, beyond what we could do ourselves. Sadly, in many cases, we've been burned, where at some point the distribution company sells copies of CDs, and ends up either going out of business or just refusing to pay. Not easy for a small band to swallow--but we've kept going because we are passionate about making music and believe in what we do.
Besides making music, kaRIN is a passionate designer and makes tons of cool stuff.

We've tried to figure in an average price that would take into account international shipping. However, if you'd like to add a couple of dollars, if you know you're international, we'd appreciate it. If you don't want to add any more for the international shipping, then that's ok too.
No, the sticker is only available in it's own little reward package.
