UPDATE! First, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed already. Your help and support mean so much to me and I'm thrilled and amazed to have made my financial goal just halfway through my campaign!
To that end, I'm adding a stretch goal. If I earn $1,000 before the end of the month, I can throw an amazing launch party at a phenomenal venue, with burlesque, music, and signature cocktails. It would be the perfect way to introduce my first book to the world.
If I make this goal, everyone who contributes will receive a new poem not already in the chapbook--as well as all the prizes already at their contribution level.
And, of course, everyone who will be in the area is invited to the party! I'll keep you posted on the details.
After my last big breakup, I wanted to read poetry that really spoke to how I felt in that moment--so I wrote my own.
It turned into a chapbook, and was overjoyed to hear Finishing Line Press wanted to publish it. It's my first published chapbook, and that's been a goal of mine for years.
But it takes a lot of work and effort to put a book out into the world. I am working with a press, but it's a small press, and while my friends and family have been amazingly supportive, if I want to to reach to a wider audience, I'm going to need some professional help.
I'd be using the money to work with a professional publicist, fund a launch party, and get the word out on a wider level.
What kind of poetry do I write? Great question. I've included some links to places where my work is published, as well as to my website. Also, here's a poem from the chapbook:
We are just like each other, two bags of skin
full of blood and fireworks.
My love, where have you gone?
On an eternal quest for cigarettes
at the corner store
walking through a desert of your own devising,
trailing behind you the tattered names
of all your past lovers.
Write me the story of where you’ve been.
Write it in fire with thirsty footprints
then open your umbrella and call for rain.
I am the deluge you’ve been searching for,
fluid right down to my shame.
Press me and I bend for you.
Touch me and I come off
on your hands.
I'm thrilled to be partnering with Creative Collective Design to bring you one of my awesome prizes, "Have a Nice Life, Asshole," the adult break-up coloring book.
Thank you SO much to everyone who contributes. Your belief and support is really touching and inspiring to me, and I promise I won't let you down!
Risks and challenges
The risks are that things might cost more than expected when I start to execute, but I've done some pricing research and feel confident I can handle any unexpected issues here.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
