About

Guardians Enamel Pins

$16,769

416

This series continues the theme of Japanese culture, and focuses on various popular guardians with rich histories and everyday significance from Shinto and Buddhist folklore and tradition.

Yatagarasu (Crows White and Black) are the first goal, with 5 more pins as stretch goals. Each pair will come together as a set, with the last (Kirin) being a solo pin.

Everyone will get a chance to pick their pins at the end in the backer surveys from the designs that are funded!

UPDATES

KIRIN: New tiers have been added for the Kirin! To change your pledge, click the "manage" button on the campaign page, select "update pledge," then select your new tier.

If you would like more than one Kirin, please add an extra $14 to your pledge. You will be asked about the extra funds at the end of the campaign. (example: if you select 2 Pairs + 1 Kirin, but want two Kirin, increase your pledge to $68)

If you would like more than 3 sets, please let me know and I'll create a new tier for you in the amount you need!

BONUS GIFT: All backers pleading for pins will receive a bonus 4x6" postcard print with their packages!

Yatagarasu is a crow that is often depicted as three-legged, and is a respected symbol of guidance. In folklore, it was sent by the sun goddess to guide an emperor who had gotten lost. The motif is popular among those working towards the path of their goals.

UNLOCKED $2,500.00 - Koma Inu. These lion-like dogs are found guarding gates to (and the insides of) shrines and temples, placed there to repel evil. Their popularity has even extended to usage outside private residential homes.

UNLOCKED $4,000.00 - Inari Kitsune. These foxes guard Shinto shrines dedicated to Inari (deity of rice), and the statues are common sights in everyday life in Japan. Kitsune themselves sometimes serve as guardians spirits.

UNLOCKED: $4,600.00 - Kirin. Kirin, the most powerful beast in Japanese folklore, are symbols of peace and protectors of the young at heart and innocent. They're said to only appear during times of benevolent rulers and peaceful eras, or to usher in an age of prosperity and serenity. *When this unlocks, new tiers will become available.

The funding goal is set to be entirely put towards the production and delivery of the pins. It accounts for the manufacturing of the pins, fees, packaging of the pins themselves and of parcels, and shipping to backers, as well as a small buffer for shipping costs.

  • April - May: kickstarter campaign
  • May: collection of surveys and ordering of pins
  • June: production time
  • July: shipping to backers

Other Quantities

If you would like more than what's offered in the reward tiers, please let me know and I'll add a tier of what you need!

Risks and challenges

The designs have been submitted for visual proofs with approved final drafts ready to go (changes, if any, will be minor). Estimated production time is 4-6 weeks.

Backers will be notified ASAP if there are any delays that do pop up, either with manufacturing, shipping, or other unforeseen problems.
