In April 2013 Canadian Shannon Hutchison and American Caley Fox are leaving from St.Johns Newfoundland Canada to undertake a journey in discovering the identity of Canadians by biking a 4 person bike from the east to west coast of Canada. This journey is all about different nationalities working together, learning about each others cultures, and finding the kindness in strangers. It is also very much about having fun and doing crazy things along the way while being environmentally friendly!! We will be riding a 4 person bike, pulling a home made rickshaw in the hopes that Canadians will help us bike our contraption while convincing Caley that Canada truly is a unique country from his own! We will encounter poutine (Caley is still wondering what this is all about), timbits (he also has no clue about this one), ringette (he thinks this one is basketball on ice), and curling (many Canadian things).
Throughout our journey we will be producing weekly video clips which will later be turned into a full documentary. We will also be taking photographs and documenting the stories of people we meet along the way, which will later be turned into a beautiful book. This is where you come in - your money will go to fund our trip (from the home made bike contraption all the way to the video equipment) and make it possible to produce this book and documentary video in the end. Our goal is set at the minimum amount it will cost to get us across. If we achieve over this goal we will be able to diversify the video footage and pay for even crazier experiences along the way.
We strongly believe in the beauty of cultures working together, learning from each other, and growing because of these experiences. We cannot do this without your support and appreciate every donation small or big to make this happen. Your donations will supply us with extra video equipment, will allow us to video different Canadian fun but money costing activities, like bob sledding in Calgary, it will allow us to purchase our Whompus Mobile, as well as much more!
Thank you so much,
Caley and Shannon
Risks and challenges
First off, we realize that biking across a rather large country is a big thing to take on. We both have been doing a whole lot of training to prepare for this. As well, we are giving ourselves ample time (5.5 months) in case injuries occur. And, if all else fails - there is the bench in the back if need be! We already have a number of riders who are going to meet us along the way in case we do not come across willing stranger participants.
We both have a background in editing videos and realize the amount of work that will go into this. We are going to be editing as we go, and backing up like crazy!! This will make the process much quicker when we get home. If problems do occur we are both very experienced to trouble shoot and keep going. The book is something we are also both very experienced in. We have access to custom book making equipment and a book maker that has done 50000 book jobs before. We have back up plans behind that as well if need be.
