Thanks for joining us on this cat-infested, lasagna-stuffed, meme-generated extravaganza!
Now, just as an added bonus we are introducing so many of the new cats on the block to the original world famous cat, Garfield! After all, he’s been around longer than all of these online-famous cats! Even before the Internet! :3
So if he has anything to add, it’s that he can still hang with the cool kids and grumpy cats of the 21st century!
Golden Bell is proud to be a part of the character’s storied history with these new products.

- You must have been seen Garfield around somewhere! You could have watched him on TV as a kid or seen him in the funny papers once upon a time.
Well, we have something that appeals to everyone here…
It’s Catstagram: The Garfield Edition!
See the basics for how to play Catstagram below! Enjoy your Caturday with 2-10 Players!
With dozens of their best online pictures taken from social media and arranged in the game, cats are drawn from a deck and placed in the middle of the table for all to see. Players will join the party and vote for the funniest and most insightful captions describing the cat. Whoever won, gets to keep the cat card. The person with the most cat cards wins the game, but the catch? Garfield also acts like a judge and can make things harder for players if his grumpy side wins out! Each round the Garfield token passes to the next player who will play as Garfield.
After you’re finished partying with the Instafamous felines, make some food for Garfield in this pizza pie-making over-sized X-Large jumbo card game with quirky art and hilarious food combinations. Now we’re cooking! Don’t hack up a hairball though. No sense in spoiling a good meal for our favorite grumpy cat. This casual card game is easy to learn & quick, so it’s purr-fect for game nights! You'll be able to play with 2-6 Pizza Loving Players!
The last card game is one that’s near and dear to our hearts. With original artwork by Mark Mariano, Garfield: Toon Line puts a new spin on family card games. An inventive matching card game using Garfield and his whole cast of memorable characters, from Jon and Odie, to Pooky and Nermal, match one of two characters in a line and create your own cartoon with these colorful combinations. For when you have the extended family over, 2-10 players!
The Sunday Comics is printed on broadsheet newsprint (a whopping 15 inches wide by 22 inches high), we’ve teamed up with cartoonists from around the globe to make original, full-color Garfield comic strips. That’s the first time this has happened!
For a character we personally grew up reading on newspapers and in collected books from libraries, The Sunday Comics: Garfield Edition is the perfect mix of old and new! That’s the first time this has happened!
Remember, if you want to keep things simple we have three games and a comic to offer! So you’re always going to get either Catstagram, Garfield Pizza Pie and Hairballs, Garfield Toon Line, and the special Garfield-themed issue of The Sunday Comics.
All stretch goals are INCLUDED in your pledge for FREE, unless otherwise stated that they are add-ons. That means all game stretch goals will come with your copy of the game when it’s delivered. The same goes for newspaper comic stretch goals regarding the comic pledges.
Purrr-ception is reality!
As each Achievement is unlocked, we’ll unveil exclusive Kickstarter comic add-ons and other additions to the reward tiers. You won’t want to miss out on these and make Garfield even grumpier than usual, so share with friends, family, co-workers, and pets alike by snapping cute pictures, sharing pawsome cat and dog memes, liking and resharing posts, and just plain engaging with the social media platforms outlined below in the image!
Catstagram is a casual card game for 2 to 10 players, meant for cat-loving, meme-obsessed, smart phone-glued people of all ages. The game is fast-paced, easy to learn, and its only #goals are for people to dish out the most laughs. As you make your way through a cat walk of the Internet’s most celebrated celebri-kitties, you’ll learn to be the greatest “memer” of the Interwebs age!
The rules (outlined above and in a how to play video below) are easy but there’s enough variation for cat enthusiasts and casual party game lovers to sit and play for hours. You’ll laugh at yourself and the jokes your friends or family make with the wealth of options available to you as you to try to describe each cat in the moment. General gameplay is natural and seamless like a social media feed.
At its core, there are over 300 captions taking inspiration from a plethora of Internet memes, cat puns, and insightful quotes that can stand the test of time and impress those around you if your timing is on point! And don’t forget, we’re including Garfield in the game too! Garfield serves as the game’s judge and there are ways he can help you take points from other players. Or he may just take a few points for himself at the end of the day!
The game is perfect for weekend getaways or parties, since the whole theme of Catstagram is a party celebrating all of cat-dom! Only pawsitive felines are allowed as we spread the love and share good vibes.
There are over 100 cats in the game with 200 cat cards using the most iconic photos of the stars! To name a few of the sensationalized cats, the game features Nala, Hosico, Lil’ Bunny Sue Roux, Pooky the Munchkin, Albert Baby, Fin, and more!
In fact, Lil’ Bunny Sue Roux recently won a Moonbeam Award for a product bundle of her photography book collected with her plush toy.
Who's in the game you ask?
Luckily, Garfield came prepared with a pizza pie-making over-sized X-Large jumbo card game that’s based on traditional card games like gin rummy. Sprinkle in a few extra toppings, and this quirky 2 to 6 player game is the perfect Garfield card game for food lovers everywhere.
In Pizza Pie and Hairballs, players will collect sets of four pizza slices to create an entire pizza while trying to avoid hairballs other players hack toward them. Various different toppings and combinations are worth more points than others, while collecting an entire set can ensure you’ll be in the lead after the second full pizza is played. Hairball slices allow you to steal slices from your opponents, so there’s strategy in either saving toppings to build your own pie or taking points away from everyone else to stand a better chance at winning later. Collect four Garfield cards and get 40 points! Make the best pie you can, all so you please Garfield’s palette to make his ultimate pizza fantasies come true!
Still hungry? Why do we even bother asking at this point? After your slice of pizza, you may want some pasta and meat mixed together! Lasagna is Garfield’s favorite, and rolling dice for fun just makes this too much of a good thing now.
The lasagna dice can be used in addition to the Pizza Pie and Hairballs card game so that every game you sit down with really turns into a feast, both visually and literally! We’re not kitten!
In Garfield’s Pizza Pie and Hairballs you can roll the Lasagna die to affect the game in crazy ways! You might lose a slice, trade a certain amount of cards with other players, pick a player to lose a slice, or lose a turn from taking a cat nap. When your turn begins, choose to roll the Lasagna die or draw an over-sized pizza slice card from the deck instead. A lucky roll might get you closer to building the most delicious pie in the game!
But please… don’t lick the cards!
After the party and the food, you can start the next day off right with Garfield: Toon Line. A fun, family card game collecting all of Garfield’s original characters.
Working previously with Golden Bell on original stories and The Sunday Comics, Mark Mariano drew Garfield and friends in his original art style. Specializing in making games for kids, Toon Line puts a new spin on classic game mechanics.
Every player is dealt out eight cards to start. One card is played in the middle. Each square card features two characters from Garfield in a conversation, just like the comic strip panels! The way to play cards is to match one of the characters in the previous card, but making sure that the colors are different. Players will continue adding to the line, laying cards in every direction to build out their own Toon Line. At the end of every game, there isn’t just a winner but a radically different layout of cards every time!
Here are some example cards and a how to play video for you to watch!
Kids can take pride in the cartoon they make that’s different with every game they play, while mom and dad share their favorite Garfield stories and memories growing up. It’s a fun, creative way to play that celebrates the history of Garfield over the years.
While the best part of the newspaper section is a lot smaller (and more black and white) than it used to be, there are still plenty of us who remember what it was like to read full-sized and full-color newsprint comics every Sunday.
A past award-winner, including a Gold Medal Mom’s Choice Award recipient, Parent’s Choice Fun Stuff award winner, 2018 Tillywig award winner, Hot Diggity award winner, and the 2018 National Parenting Product Awards winner. Golden Bell’s The Sunday Comics continues to publish issues. With stories (some serialized and some recurring) fit for the whole family, there’s a lot of variety packed into every issue and Garfield’s issue will be no different.
We’ve brought a widely skilled group of artists together to tackle the famous feline, all for the first time in print! There’s a whole band of artists joining to show off their own take with Garfield including Rachel Korsen, Brad Perri, Jason Whitley, Nathan Fergason, Jon Esparza, Chris Otto, Ezra Butt, Alex Brenchley, Rich Clabaugh, Dave Mason, Marc Jackson, Mark Mariano, Matt Loeb, Ryan Marshall, Jim Allen, and Sam Backhouse are just a few of the cartoonists on board to make their own Garfield comics.
For one brief preview, we wanted to talk about a Garfield comic the Golden Bell team actually all wrote together. Just as pure fans of Garfield and comics in general, we thought it would be really fun to see Garfield not only exist in his own strip, but fall out of his strip and into other Sunday Comics genres we’d think up together as a team with the artists. At the start of the comic, Garfield is so unusually hungry he pictures both Odie and Jon as trays of lasagna and devours them both. His weight balloons to the point that the very infrastructure of the strip beneath gives way, and the now enormous cat falls through into the next frames…still hungry for more!
This is just one of the stories in the issue and we’re really proud of it. For The Sunday Comics game, you can live through these moments and change things accordingly as the player going through Garfield’s strip adventures.
After family game day with Toon Line, unfolding the large-sized comics with everyone is really simple.
See below how you might enjoy this special collaborative Sunday Comics issue featuring Garfield!
What's The Sunday Comics Game you ask?
Once you’ve finished reading through the newest Sunday Comics: Garfield Issue, flip the comics over to the back and look over the instructions for how to play.
Everyone knows the basic format of a comic strip. Some are three panels, some are four, and some are a little longer at eight (like many of Garfield’s strips for example). Another thing you can do after enjoying your Sunday Comics themed issues is to take out a pair of scissors and cutting out the strips and panels just like we used to do when we were kids! Once you’ve gathered up all of your panels, you can play the strip-making game to tell Garfield-themed comics and craft your very own issue of The Sunday Comics with your friends and family!

Paws Inc. and Golden Bell have combined to do something truly special here. Garfield will have brand new adventures and every backer’s pledge helps add more comics to a dream come true for our entire team! We’ll see you in The Sunday Comics!
Born on the newspaper comics pages on June 19, 1978, GARFIELD first appeared in just 41 U.S. newspapers. Today, GARFIELD is the most widely syndicated comic strip in the world (Guinness World Records), appearing in over 2100 newspapers with a readership estimated at 200,000,000 each day. The creation of cartoonist Jim Davis, GARFIELD is a humorous strip centered on the lives of a quick-witted orange cat who loves lasagna, coffee, and his remote control; Jon Arbuckle, his owner; and Odie, a sweet but dumb dog. Andrews McMeel Syndication distributes the feature. The success of the comic strip spawned an empire including movies, TV shows, stage shows, merchandise, books, and more. An estimated 200 million books have sold worldwide since Garfield’s inception.
As for the purr-ecious famous cats joining Garfield on this historic occasion, they’ve been covered by dozens of media outlets as well! See below.
These Print and Play games allow you to test the card games before buying them. The games are all nearly finished. All of the art for the base game of each of the three card games is completed, and the only changes might be small copy edits or things with balancing to make sure the experience is nearly perfect for every backer.

Risks and challenges
This isn’t Golden Bell's first experience with Kickstarter, having delivered over a dozen campaigns to backers. The games are finished, and the comics are done! We are prepared in the sense that all of the artwork is already done, so we turned to manufacturing before the campaign. With the card games sampled, and the comic in e-PDF Format, we’re just going to spend the rest of the time and funds making sure everything is perfect for every backer and Garfield fan. We’re committed to delivering a quality product with the timeline we’ve set. While we estimate no delays in getting these products out to backers, we cannot predict any delays due to anything happening outside of our direct control, like an impending natural disaster or interference with goods outside of our direct involvement.
Our team will update backers accordingly should the need arise, and we plan on showing the progress of finally getting these projects made and sent to everyone who might enjoy them! We might even have a few surprises too!
Our team has spent countless of hours adjusting the game through play testing. Honestly, we drove a lot of our parents crazy along this journey, and we don't feel TOO bad about it because they enjoyed it themselves throughout the process. We took every piece of feedback into consideration, even when it came to the smallest details. With that being said, we finally believe it is ready be let loose from its cage. Be paws-itive and try to enjoy your Mondays!
