VnotPH is a short film, about Marie, and her problem. The two men in her life spell their name differently. You might not think it is such a big deal, but it is. I wanted to shine a light on this, because there are only two things that Vs and PHs agree on: 1. They each spell their name correctly. 2. The other one spells their name wrong. It's an evening of bumps and false starts and hope and failure and loss, and a very funny movie that I hope you will enjoy.
I found an exceptional cast, and they worked really hard, and I can't wait to see this film finished.
So my producer and I are looking to raise money to complete the post-production work on this film. The film has already been shot, and now we have to have it edited, and finished. The shooting, that's the easy part, casting, finding locations, feeding, and transporting the cast and crew. I even took out a workman's comp policy. No one has ever been hurt on a shoot I run, but I don't want anyone left unprotected.
It's the post production that is hard. Editing costs money, and takes time. You pick your selected takes, the editor roughs it in, then more passes to trim and adjust for performance and timing and finally finished. After that the film has to be color corrected, adjustments made to the brightness, color, contrast. We shot this film pretty well, but still, it takes a careful eye and work to bring out the best. The Audio mix, adjusting audio levels, and any audio dubbing, and then there is music.
I've found an editor, and a post-production sound person, and once we have a fine cut of the film with credits, I'll find a color correction and a music person involved.
The reason I'm not editing the film myself is that you have to be able to make brutal choices when editing, and when it is my baby, and I'm attached to it, it becomes difficult to do, and I'd like to get this finished. Also, I like the collaborative process, you often get so much more out of it, than if you did it all by yourself.
Risks and challenges
The biggest possible setback I see is with Audio work, this can take time, and I have to rely on someone else and fit our schedules together. Color correction could also pose scheduling problems, and I expect the music person to take about a month. So I've figured that from September to January. This really ought to provide a realistic goal in finishing the film, without letting it hang around and stagnate.
Thanking people by adding the names on the website, I'll do that on a weekly basis, if not quicker, because once you pledge, your name will go on. The hats and mugs, I'm looking at a month for turnaround from ordering them to shipping them out to you.
