The Village of Middlevale is a comedic, feature-length, improvised mockumentary. The film revolves around a strange company of outcasts that give up their modern lives to found a medieval village, Middlevale. Witch burnings, blights, rivalries and hilarity ensue as we follow the group of incompetents over the course of a year.
We have a simple premise and a great cast that’s ready for anything. The film writes itself. All we have to do is capture the chaos, the strokes of genius and get them on film.
The movie is currently in pre-production. We have the characters, the scenes, the outline, most of our actors and have had several rehearsals.
The movie is completely improvised. Though the events and the characters have been written, their actions and what they say have not. It’s as though we really did stick a group of random strangers in a medieval township together!
For the promotional video we treated it as sort of a pilot. We used leftover costumes and set pieces from past movies. It was mainly to give you a feeling for the characters and what the movie will be like.
Five years ago we made a film called “The Making of Rocks! The Movie.” It was a silly, fully improvised, short mockumentary. We loved making the film, working with our great cast and watching the final product. Ever since, we have always hoped to revisted the genre and do another fully improvised movie.
With this project we wanted do just that, but something that was also character based and feature-length and so The Village of Middlevale was born.
It’s going to be a fun movie and every pledge is one step closer to giving us the opportunity to do something we love and make something great out of it.
The Story of Us.
We are a little production company called Finley Mimbles that specializes in imaginative, fantastical and costume antics. We, Amber Celletti and Nathan Blanchard, first started our filmmaking venture in high school and have been making movies together ever since. Over the years we’ve learned a lot, but mostly that we love making movies, telling stories and making people laugh.
Our actors are trained in the thespian art of bull****ing, otherwise known as improvisation. They are a mix of theatre and film actors from the Tacoma/Seattle area. They’re an especially funny group that can also make you shed a tear or two, even if it’s only from making you laugh so hard.
Our cast members so far included:
Frank Roberts, Genevieve Ferrari, Sarahann Rickner, Coleman Hagerman, Nick Gates, Maxwell Turner, Nathan Vess and Thomas Blanchard.
$5,000 dollars is our entire budget. No one is getting paid. From grips to leads, everyone is a volunteer. All of the funds will be put towards sets, props, costumes, food, transportation, equipment, distribution materials, festival submissions, and a private screening event.
Our sets and props will be custom built. Even some of the set work will be built by the actors, that’s method acting for you. Most of our costumes will also be handmade for the movie. Food will be our only method of payment, and we are gonna need to feed a lot of people for many days.
So with your help we hope to reach our goal and make this film in all of its fantastical hilarity.
With your pledges we can fund our movie and you can get a cool reward out of it. Seriously though, every little bit helps. You can also give any reward as a gift and remember, christmas is right around the corner.
If you don’t have money to give, but would still like to help see this movie succeed you can like our Facebook and get all your friends to do it too.
If you are interested in helping, sponsoring our project, participating in making the movie or if you have a question please contact us.
Risks and challenges
This is an all or nothing project. If we do not succeed in reaching our goal we will not make the film and all our actors will frown and give us big puppy dog eyes for breaking their little hearts.
If we are funded, we will be faced with the challenges any medieval village might face: famine, plague, floods, pillages, war, tyrant kings and volcanoes. Not to mention we have to make a movie out of it.
Our goal is to have the movie finished by June, please understand that we will be building sets, making costumes, filming and editing. Movies take time and great effort to make. We will surely do everything in our power to meet our deadline.
As well, we plan on keeping all of our backers informed and updated on the progress of our film. Everyone will receive updates on our project and have access to our official production blog.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
