Since I was 17 (I won't tell you how long ago that was), I have had the honor of singing for other artists, both live and in the studio. Singing on other people's projects is a great joy for me. I love it. But I'm way overdue in pursuing music for myself.
Songwriting is just as much a part of me as my dark hair or blood type. I have catalogs of writing notebooks spanning decades (this may defeat the purpose of not telling you how long ago 17 was...) and I have only released one EP. Until now.
GRAVITY: THE NEXT STEP
Gravity is a collection of songs that are raw and real-life. I don't know about you, but I can't relate to songs about partying all night and bottle service. Part of the beauty in any art form is what it evokes in the partaker and how they can relate to it. That is what this project is about. More than anything, though, it's an opportunity for me to focus some attention on this part of who I am, to give it a go at being an artist. I've had opportunities to pursue my music but I don't think I was truly ready for what that means until now.
I have the great privilege of working with Kenny Davis: producer/engineer/musician/songwriter extraordinaire on this project. He's uber talented and is helping me bring this long-awaited project to life.
We have begun the production and recording process and all we need to complete it is money. I know that asking for money is a pretty bold thing, but I'm taking a risk and doing it anyway. I'm so pumped about this already and can't wait to share it with you. It's going to be SO GOOD.
The budget for this album is $12,000. This covers the cost of putting together this project:
- $7,500: Production, studio time, musicians, mixing and mastering
- $1,600: Distribution, printing, graphic design
- $900: Photography, Styling, Design
- $2,000: Backer incentives & Kickstarter fees
If you're familiar with how Kickstarter works you know that if we don't raise the total budget, we don't receive any funds toward the completion of the album and Kickstarter waives the fees associated with their service. So even if you can't spare the change from your couch cushions or the dryer, SHARE THIS WITH YOUR FRIENDS and ask them to share with their friends. This is how this project will succeed! If we exceed the goal that's been set, additional funds will go to adding more songs to the album and a music video. Wouldn't it be great if this turned out to be full-length album that you get as incentive for backing this project?! ;)
THANK YOU for your support, your interest, for making it this far into this description. Keep checking in here (the Updates tab specifically), follow me on all the social medias, and let's get this album made!
Risks and challenges
As with any creative process, challenges do arise!
Our biggest challenge will be in sticking to the timeline set in place. With outside vendors (mixing and mastering engineers, for example), we can only set the deadline and hope they will stick to it.
The greatest risk this project faces is not getting the funding for this project. Without the Kickstarter funding, the album cannot be released until the funds are made/saved to accomplish one task at a time. This could take six months, it could take two years.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
