In the 1990s craft brewing was really a fad. There were a small number of brewers making beer with distinction, traditional influence, and personality. The craft-brewing scene was founded locally and as it has grown it's become steeped in local distinction, tradition and community character.
There are more than 2,000 breweries nationwide and 45 in the State of Montana. Montana is third in the nation for breweries per capita. These are craft breweries. That tells us that Montanans love craft beer. Every major population center in Montana has a brewery. Missoula has seven breweries, Belgrade has two, Red Lodge has one, and Bozeman has three.
We feel there is a large undefined beer culture in South Central Montana: Livingston has no production brewery and only a brewpub serving some of the three million tourists that visit the Yellowstone National Park every year.
In November 2013, we began the renovation of a historic downtown building built in 1881. As with most historic renovations, there were some unplanned for deficiencies. The back 1/3 of the building was structurally unsound and needed to be demolished and built back up.
Although this sounds like a lot of work, it has all worked out for the best. We have a brand new production area that we've been able to build to fit our needs and help us make great beer.
We also had to gut the entire building to upgrade the sewer, plumbing and electrical. Again this has allowed us to custom design how the beer is poured, the flow of the space and the look of our brand.
Due to the time delays and increased renovation costs we've experienced we need to raise $10,000 to open our doors in September.
We have had the great pleasure of experiencing wide spread support and encouragement. Now we're asking for your help to cross the finish line to serve our beer, to build on the craft brewery scene of Montana and to build a beer culture in Livingston.
Risks and challenges
We are in the final stages of our renovation and we are close to opening our doors. The only items we are waiting on is our State Brewers License and our City License. Both have to inspect and sign off on our renovations before we open. This is the last hurdle along with raising $10,000 to be able to open our doors.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
