Lucy Barloc is a seventeen-year-old romantic who wants nothing more than to fall in love. She’s an adorably geeky fangirl who’s pretty badass at archery, too. On the eve of her college tour, Lucy asks a psychic her destiny but is quickly told that true love is forbidden for her. She has no idea why. That is until, she finds herself at a place called Love University.
Love University is a school for Cupids that resides on a plane just outside of the human world. Every Cupid in attendance along with the professors are what they call “Class Two” cupids. They all have something called a love gene and are distant descendants of the god, Eros. There are, however, two anomalies on campus. Nox, a roguish bad boy who is half-Night God (the gods of hate and strife and natural enemies of the Cupids), and our lead, Lucy Barloc, a “Class One” Cupid, descended from not just Eros but the African love goddess, Oshun. Lucy’s powers are beyond anyone’s imagination. We just don’t know fully what they are yet, or how Lucy will manifest them. In the meantime, Lucy has to see if Love University is really the place she wants to be, if she will accept the love ban on her fellow Cupids, and whether or not she will ever find true love.
Issue #1 will take us on Lucy’s first journey into this strange new world.
LUCY, a fangirl who loves a good romance and discovers she’s a Cupid. Lucy loves her friends and family, but she’s always felt a little different. When she gets to Love University, she feels that she’s somewhat found a home, but she’s also different there. Her archery skills will eventually come in handy though.
TY, the dean of Love University’s handsome, by-the-book son, who is a master of love potions. All he wants to do is to keep the school safe from the Night Gods. After all, they are the ones responsible for his mother’s death.
DYLAN, Lucy’s first crush and a boy she meets on her college tour who also turns out to be a Cupid. Dylan is a mysterious character who is quiet but manages to get everyone to like him.
NOX, a half Night God and half Cupid, who has been banished from his family and raised by the university’s top Greek Mythology instructor, Professor Mina. He’s almost as good at archery as Lucy. Nox likes to create havoc and may have a hidden agenda we will see unfold as the series continues.
IN ISSUE #2, we’ll meet even more of Lucy’s new friends, including her extremely colorful suitemates, PIPPA, FREYA, ECHO, and IMOGEN. They are rich and fun and can’t wait to meet you! But first, let’s bring Issue #1 into the world!
Audiences who love Riverdale, Runaways, Veronica Mars, Harry Potter, and The Magicians will love Love University. The idea emerged one day over a decade ago, when the writer/creator, Allison Chaney Whitmore, was driving by a university campus in Los Angeles, and thought what if there was a school for cupids called “Love U”? She always wanted to tell a story set on a university campus. She put the idea to bed and continued with her other work until she was asked to pen a comic for Evoluzione Publishing. Soon, Love University was born.
“I think telling a story about something I would have wanted to see when I was young with a strong woman of color as the lead is important. I know there are many others out there who will love seeing Lucy in the role we have given her. Love University is meant to be fun, of course, but it is also about relationships and finding your own personal power. Our art team: Carola Borelli and Agnese Pozza are not only incredibly talented but care so much about this story, too. After meeting them, I knew 100% that Love University was meant to come to life.” -- Allison Chaney Whitmore

Justin Birch (Letterer)
I was born in the hills of West Virginia and raised on a diet of pepperoni rolls and Ecto Cooler Hi-C. I surprised everyone, including myself, by surviving to adulthood on that diet. Now, I letter comics. My eventual dream is the same as everyone else – to work full time from home in my underwear.
I have a Bachelor's in graphic design and have been lettering comics for over a year. In that short time I've worked with numerous publishers and I know I can meet any deadline you may have. I offer a quick turnaround and competitive rates. Email for a quote.
I would love to letter your next comic.
