When a German baker and an Italian Chef come together to realize their dream, the whole community benefits.
"Der Pioneer" is a real neighborhood spot that offers the community a place to meet friends, work or simply hang out, read a book, and enjoy artisanal, 100% homemade food and drinks. Our commitment will be more than just a lip service. Since we live in this neighborhood ourselves and know our customers, we plan on growing with and for them. Art exhibitions, music sessions, readings, pop-up shops, visiting guest chefs, cooking classes, co-ops with local artists, caterings, buy-outs - let’s make it happen!
As a Pastry Chef with over 20 years of experience, Björn knows a thing or two about delicious pastries. Being a German expat with a strong background in traditional French patisserie and a fondness for chocolate work, clients can expect an ever-changing selection of goodies, ranging from American standards like muffins and pies, over homemade chocolates and bonbons to classic French pastries like croissants and macarons. As a specialty, Björn will focus on hard-to-find German staples like Stollen, Franzbroetchen or Baumkuchen. If you don’t know any of them yet, even more of a reason to stop by and visit!
Greg will take care of the savory side of the kitchen which, of course, will focus on Italian inspired dishes. With years of fine dining experience under his belt, he is planning on an approachable yet refined menu with lots of healthy, grab and go items like grain salads, paninis, and quiches. Additionally, some breakfast and brunch items will be available in the mornings. Seasonality and simplicity will be key to his ever changing menu.
Risks and challenges
We are ready to rumble! The shop's ready, the menu's in place, and the ovens are almost hot. As soon as we get cleared by the city, the most wonderful smells of freshly brewed coffee and buttery-sweet pastries will waft through our hood.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
