Thank you for checking out our Kickstarter campaign! We are excited to share this fiddle duet recording with you. This project marks the first time that an Old-Time album has featured traditional American tunes performed on two fiddles exclusively. While other duos have contributed incredible recordings to the Old Time community -- Brad Leftwich and Dan Gellert, Rafe and Clelia Stefanini, and Tricia Spencer and Howard Rains, to name a few -- we are thrilled to offer what appears to be the first of its kind in the world of American Old-Time and Appalachian music.
David Bragger is a world-renowned fiddle teacher and performer, as well as the founder of the Old-Time Tiki Parlour, where he records and preserves the music of our greatest living Old-Time performers. Susan Platz has played music all her life, and has studied and dabbled in different styles over the years. Our collaboration began when Susan first discovered Old Time fiddle at one of David's workshops. We started playing dances together, collaborating in our old timey jug band Sausage Grinder, and all the while experimenting with fiddle seconding and harmonizing.
For this album, we chose beloved tunes that had interesting harmonic potential for fiddle seconding. We selected tunes from Kentucky, Illinois, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Texas, Arizona, and California, from fiddlers both living and dead. We wanted to feature some familiar tunes, as well as unearth some little-known gems. We’re excited to share them all with you!
We are using members of the Old Time community for every component of this project. By making a contribution, you’re supporting other wonderfully talented Old Time musicians. Our powerhouse team includes Joe "Bass" Dejarnette doing the mastering, Howard Rains is crafting the album layout, and Nick Bachman is creating our album artwork.
Along with the CD, you will receive a beautiful package with informative liner notes and narrative. Read about each tune's historical background and enjoy vibrant artwork and photographs to complement the text.
Thank you for considering a donation to help bring our project to life!
