Help fund the production and release of a truly massive Special Edition Larry Elmore Dragons diorama from Dark Sword Miniatures.
Help bring this massive Special Edition Elmore Dragons Diorama Set to market!
Dark Sword Miniatures is raising funds to help cover the production costs of launching our first major diorama set. We hope that there are enough folks out there that want to see cool 28mm Heroic Scale (what I like to refer to as tabletop gaming scale) diorama sets based on the legendary artwork of Larry Elmore, Keith Parkinson, Clyde Caldwell and Jeff Easley, that we can produce something truly epic every year or so in the way of highly detailed & realistically proportioned fantasy miniature dioramas.
For those of you unfamiliar with Dark Sword Miniatures and the style of our miniatures, you can check us out on our Web site at: www.DarkSwordMiniatures.com . You can also scroll down the page to some gallery pictures of a small sampling of the miniatures we have released over the past 11 years. Please note - these are painted studio model examples – all of our miniatures come in bare pewter or resin and will require minor assembly. You the hobbyist will get the pleasure of assembling and painting our miniatures in whatever color schemes you wish to see them in.It is a wonderful hobby indeed..
We have a very simple campaign backer structure you can see over to your right. Backers will be rewarded for their support with special Kickstarter pricing that includes shipping in the USA and extra perks like an autographed 8x10 inch print of the artwork that inspired this diorama signed by the legendary artist Larry Elmore. Other perks will include stretch goals that can be unlocked along the way for more free bonuses and access to other cool add-ons after the initial funding goal is exceeded. This diorama set will retail for $299.99 + shipping after what we hope will be a successful Kickstarter campaign. Please note - International shipping is very expensive so our friends outside of the USA will have a shipping charge applied to their pledge – this simply helps defray our shipping costs overseas – Dark Sword is not profiting off of shipping costs.
As you can see from the pictures of the diorama set below, we already have the dragon diorama fully sculpted and have been running test castings of this massive diorama to ensure everything is ready to crank into high gear on the production front once we get underway. Everything is in high quality resin except for the two human adventurers that are cast in lead-free pewter. I aim to have backer rewards delivered very quickly after this campaign is finished so people can enjoy this great looking diorama set.
The legendary duo of Dave Summers and Tom Meier (from Ral Partha fame) have teamed up to sculpt this diorama set. Dave Summers sculpted up the dragon and its huge diorama display base while Tom Meier sculpted up the two adventurers battling the dragon. Dave and Tom have been Dark Sword team members since 2004.
This massive Elmore dragon is over 500mm long from snout to tip of its tail and is over 310 mm tall (over 12 inches) from the bottom of its diorama base to the tip of its wings in its crouching pose. The wings measure well over 300mm from the side of one wing to the side of the other wing. This is a big beefy dragon with lots of body mass like the source artwork from Larry Elmore. The resin dragon itself with display base weighs over 2.5 pounds alone. This would be about a 10-15 pound kit if done in pewter. It easily dwarfs anything Dark Sword Miniatures has done to date in our first 11 years of being in business. This project was started back in December of 2012 and is finally ready to move into the production phase. The benefit for you as a backer of this project is you do not have to wait 7 to 9 months while this was sculpted, fine tuned, and then test cast. We are now ready to plow forward and deliver an amazing diorama kit in true Dark Sword fashion.
Below are some size comparison shots to really drive home how large this Special Edition Larry Elmore Dragons Diorama kit really is. The first picture is a screen grab from our video that shows how large it is compared to me and another large Dark Sword dragon kit.
This next size comparison shot is next to our Easley Dragons Set # 1, a Reaper Miniatures mini and a classic Grenadier Dragons of the Month White Dragon from Series 1 (one of my favorites from the 1st series they did way back in 1984).
Below is a small sampling of our Elmore Masterworks Pewter Miniature range. Please note - these are painted studio models - all of our miniatures come in bare pewter or bare resin and require minor assembly and of course painting.
Below is a small sampling of our George R.R. Martin Masterworks Pewter Miniature range from the Song of Ice and Fire Book Series that inspired the hit HBO show Game of Thrones. These miniatures were created working closely with GRRM himself from how he envisioned the characters from the books in his mind - they are not from the HBO series. Please note - these are painted studio models - all of our miniatures come in bare pewter or bare resin and require minor assembly and of course painting.
Below is a small sampling of our Visions in Fantasy Pewter Miniature range. Please note - these are painted studio models - all of our miniatures come in bare pewter or bare resin and require minor assembly and of course painting.
Below is a small sampling of our Visions in Fantasy Anthropomorphic Animal (I call them critters) Pewter Miniature range. Please note - these are painted studio models - all of our miniatures come in bare pewter or bare resin and require minor assembly and of course painting.
We have included the above galleries of images to showcase a small sampling of what Dark Sword Miniatures has delivered over the past 11 years as we approach 500 miniatures produced. You can see for yourself the quality and care we put into every aspect of our small boutique miniature company. You can check out our Web site at: www.DarkSwordMiniatures.com to see more examples of what we have done and also read customer testimonials about the quality of our miniature ranges and the speed of our shipments all over the world. I bring these things up to call attention to our proven track record of delivering on projects in a consistent methodical manner.
Thank you very much for checking out our Kickstarter Project!
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The biggest challenge we face is getting the backer rewards shipped in a timely and affordable fashion. I want to exceed expectations on this front. So to help support this goal, we have already completed sculpting and initial molding on this diorama. We have also performed test castings to ensure everything is dialed in from a standard resin quality perspective. We have already had our resin caster set aside casting time and packing time so we can quickly get a head start on production as this campaign is underway (as resin casting takes longer than pewter casting). We will keep our backers in the loop with frequent updates throughout the run of the Kickstarter project. All of our production and packing/shipping will in/from the Midwest USA.
Many Kickstarter campaigns also run into shipping issues – especially international shipping issues. We are in our 11th year of business and have shipped orders out all over the world in the past 11 years. International shipping is very expensive and this large Dragon diorama will be no exception as the shipping box will weigh well over 4 pounds. Dark Sword Miniatures has built a reputation of top notch quality and dependability over the years in regards to both our miniatures and our shipping turn times. And we aim to build upon that reputation with this Kickstarter.
Another challenge many Kickstarters face is sorting the surveys after the project completes. We have purposely built our project with simplified backer levels in order to simplify surveys so they are easy to complete and return quickly.
