Last year, Great Forest released our first EP for free. This year, we'd like to release another one.
In 2012, Great Forest released our first EP on iTunes, Amazon, and other online stores. However, in the past year we've sold less than 100 copies on those stores. Why? It's either because we're terrible, or because 95% of people opted to download it for free on our website.
This doesn't bother us at all. In fact, it encourages us! We're not doing this to make a great profit and support our careers. We are all full-time employees or full-time students.
We're doing this because we love it.
Great Forest has something to say, and we'd like to say it to as large of an audience as possible. We gave 1500 copies away last year, and we'd love to give away many more with this new EP.
Our lyrics are straight from the heart. They cover our personal thoughts on joy, arrogance, confusion, and faith. It's because of these lyrics that we're not content with banking on album sales. We'd much rather someone be encouraged or challenged by our lyrics, than to not hear them because they couldn't afford it.
Please check out the reward levels along the side, and consider helping us fund this album. If you do, we've got some really awesome rewards to say thank you. Please note, when you pledge an amount, no money is taken initially. We only get your funding if our goal of $2000 is completely met.
Thank you so much for reading this, and for checking out our Kickstarter page. If you'd like to hear our last EP, download it for free at http://noisetrade.com/greatforest.
Whether you pledge any amount to us or not, be sure to stay in touch so we can give you this new one as well.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The only setback we foresee with this project would be that our files we've recorded so far would be lost. That's why we work based on the principle that "a file doesn't truly exist until it exists in 3 different locations." We have backups. In fact, we have backups of our backups.
Once the project is completed, the challenge will be to mail out the hard copies, tshirts, and hoodies. This is when it's nice to have someone in the band that owns his own clothing line, and is used to that kind of work. Caleb actually works for a screen printing company, so he will be able to take care of ordering the merchandise himself. Once they're printed, he'll then make sure that all of the Great Forest merchandise is shipped out to people as soon as possible.
YES. Due to an overwhelming amount of interest, we do offer international rewards as of 2/13/13. Check out the rewards for details! (They're basically just the same rewards, but they have an international shipping fee.)
We will send out a questionnaire after funding is complete for you to fill out your shirt size, shipping address, etc.
