If you're tired of small talk, and want to learn more about others' thoughts, perspectives, and stories, then we want you to meet Convers(ate)!
Think back to your last great conversation...the kind where you lost track of time and really connected. Has it been awhile?
Getting past small talk to a certain level of depth in our everyday interactions can be hard, and it’s increasingly rare to meaningfully connect...even with those we see most. After hosting over 50 conversation-focused dinners and team building events, we’ve learned that a specific question-focused methodology invites great conversation and brings people together to learn and connect.
In each box you'll find:
- 28 Conversation Cards: Compelling topics that are universally relate-able (like Gratitude, Impermanence, Leadership, Nature and Friendship).
- 300+ Questions: Each card has an icebreaker and a set of 10 expertly crafted questions that range from philosophical, like “Is wanderlust something we're all born with?” to experiential, like “When did you first fall in love? What was it like?” The last question on each card is future-looking + designed to inspire action.
- Instruction booklet: Fun variations for play, including a Jeffersonian Dinner inspired version, an "Adventure" version, a "Spiked" version, and more.
- Pocket Guide for Facilitators: Our best tips for how to ask great questions and create a dynamic conversation.
- Takeaway Cards: For each player to capture personal "lightbulb" moments from their experience.
The product is printed on heavyweight paper, so that it lasts and can easily travel with you. The set comes in a custom box that you'd be happy to display on your coffee table. We plan to share an update of the box design shortly after launch!
Update: With some of our Kickstarter funding we were able to hire a graphic designer to help us polish Convers(ate)'s designs, including the box. Here's a sneak peek of what's to come!
Behind the fun is a methodology backed by history and scientific research.
Convers(ate) is inspired by the concept of a Jeffersonian Dinner, in which individuals gather around a dinner table for conversation about an important topic of the day. Guests share perspectives on the topic at hand, listen and learn from one another -- one speaker at a time.
Research clearly demonstrates the impact that this kind of learning and connection has on our mental + physical health and general well-being. People everywhere crave authentic and meaningful interactions, but aren't always sure where to start.
Convers(ate) is already a proven concept with real impact.
Creators Taylor and Mollie met by chance in 2007. Their brief but meaningful conversation led to a long friendship. Over the past decade, across industries and continents, they’ve explored the ideas of storytelling, authenticity and connection in their personal and professional lives.
Mollie + Taylor have hosted over 50 conversation-focused dinner parties and team building events, for 500+ participants around the world. That’s 120+ hours of meaningful conversation, over which they’ve honed Convers(ate)'s methodology and developed tried and true recommendations for people everywhere to host great conversations.
People genuinely connect with each other when playing Convers(ate).
Some have said that Convers(ate) gave them a chance to learn things about friends or family that they never knew. Others arrive as strangers and leave as friends.
What You're Supporting
By joining this campaign, you are also joining the movement to #bringbackconversation. Whether you like good old-fashioned dinner table talk, or you're excited to use Convers(ate) to more deeply connect with friends and family who live far away by playing over the phone or video chat, you are part of a movement to learn and connect through conversation.
Joining also means that you are a part of the creation of Convers(ate). We would love to hear your ideas for new topics. If we exceed our funding goal, one of your suggestions may appear in your Convers(ate) set!
The funds raised on Kickstarter will go towards completing an initial production batch, including packaging, printing, licensing, shipping from the manufacturer, and start-up costs. A successful campaign will allow us to truly launch this product and later bring to retailers across the country. The graph below shows the breakdown of costs:
Convers(ate) was created with love to invite more depth of connection among friends, family members, team members and even new acquaintances through meaningful conversation. To our family and friends, and those of you who decide to become supporters, thank you. This game is for you!

Risks and challenges
The core content of Convers(ate) is fully developed and has been extensively tested. As we take the next step toward a physical product, we envision an easy to read, durable, and visually pleasing set of cards with packaging to match. Doing this requires working closely with our chosen printer, packager and distribution partners to ensure that the physical product meets the highest standards. Our goal is to deliver a great product that you’ll use for years to come.
The largest risk factor to our project is timing. Delays. We are working toward shipment in time for the December holiday season, but the process of proofing and coordination may take longer, so we have identified a ship date of late December. Surpassing our funding goal means that we can expedite the production process and deliver Convers(ate) as soon as possible. At the latest, you will receive Convers(ate) by January 31.
