GROW YOUR OWN GUACAMOLE TREE WITH THE Edu-CADO™.
Almost everyone that loves guacamole has tried to sprout an avocado pit with toothpicks and a glass of water. The Edu-CADO™ makes sprouting your avocado pit virtually effortless. Simply POP the pit from an avocado, DROP it into the Edu-CADO™, PLOP it into a glass of watto. Voila! Toothpicks? We don’t need no stinking toothpicks! Now, you and your family can be the first on your block to grow your very OWN guacamole tree, with the Edu-CADO™! (check out our comment section, below, regarding colder climates)
YOU CAN HELP MAKE THIS PROJECT A REALITY
What you’re seeing in the pictures is our first professional prototype. After converting our cardboard mock-up into computer aided design, the CAD file is brought screaming into this world by the stereolithography process, or “SLA”, which is a fancy word for 3D printing. What you’re seeing in the pictures is a white plastic prototype with a coat of spray paint. We just couldn't WAIT to see how they worked. As designed, the Edu-CADO™ sat perfectly in EVERY glass in our cabinet. From the shot glass all the way up to the "Big Gulp." So we moved over to the cereal bowls. It really WORKS! The sleek, functional design was patterned after real avocado leafs. The Patent Pending WaveFlo-Cradle™ keeps your avocado pit immersed in water, which is crucial for obtaining a sprout that will eventually grow into your very own guacamole tree. This clever gizmo will put you on the cutting edge of avocado sprouting technology. You'll be the envy of all your neighbors! It’s like having a turbo encabulator for your kitchen! We just need a little help buying the mold to make these things. You wouldn’t believe how expensive CAD designs and injection molds are, these days.
THE NEXT BIG THING?
There are a few iconic toys that almost everyone grew up with. The Slinky. The Hula Hoop. The Frisbee. Silly Putty. Nerf balls. Wax lips. All clever ideas based in utter simplicity, flawless function and timeless design. No moving parts or pieces to lose. Purchased and enjoyed by multiple generations for decades. The Edu-CADO™ hopes to be the new kid on the block, alongside those classics.
CONNECT WITH OUR MOVEMENT TO SAVE THE TOOTHPICKS!
Toothpicks are sharp. And sharp hurts. Toothpicks are made of wood. And they break. They’re not good conductors of electricity and they’re always jumping out of their box. Sure, they’re good for marshmallow projects and building castles for school projects and checking if your cake is done. Oh yeah, and they’re really good at parties with those little squares of cheese. But sprouting avocado pits? Come on! That’s so 1982. Get with the future of avocado sprouting technology. When you’re looking to sprout the world’s largest guacamole tree, simplicity just got simplic-ified. Edu-CADO™! Save your toothpicks for more important things!
Without being preachy, our product is so green, it’s actually…well…GREEN! Sure, it’s most likely to be made of fully recyclable plastic, which comes with a social responsibility to the end user, but we’re actually looking into producing it with newly designed, biodegradable PLANT BASED RESINS, if at all possible. (If we can find one that doesn't dissolve in water) We’re also looking into an even more environmentally minded product, “Model #2”; utilizing injected MANURE (yes, you read that right) that you can actually plant in your backyard. Our plan is to have no packaging, which means more room at the county landfill for your neighbor's garbage. For the UPC code and all that, we're experimenting with a simple wrap-around sticker or a cardboard hang-tag with twine. We'd love to hear your innovative ideas on minimalist packaging. And by the way, avocado trees CAN be grown indoors in colder climates, as potted ornamentals.
DID YOU KNOW?
Our Patent Pending design was first hobbled together with cardboard, Elmer's® glue, PlayDoh® and a measuring spoon that went "conspicuously missing" from the kitchen drawer. (She still hasn't figured it out, yet) Conceived as a classroom aid for elementary school science projects, the original sketches sat in our designer’s drawer for 10 years, while he helped raise 8 foster kids and performed volunteer work for various charities. All the kids have graduated high school, now, and most are in college….making this the perfect time to move on to the next phase of his life; Teaching. Learning. Growing. Your pledge will help further our mission and provide others with a sense of pride and achievement in growing their own little piece of nature.
WORKING TO KEEP JOBS IN THE UNITED STATES
Our project has another noble motive; to keep manufacturing jobs in AMERICA. As you know, almost everything made of plastic is made in China, these days. The Edu-CADO™ is committed to keeping a small, family owned plastics company in business. A company that has been manufacturing plastic goods for over 40 years. We need to do what we can to keep their 50 employees working to support their families.
SEIZE THE FUTURE OF AVOCADO SPROUTING TECHNOLOGY
We hope you believe in this new product enough to consider an investment in a small start-up company that hopes to be selling products to your children’s children. We have many more ideas on the drawing board for you and your family to enjoy. This simple product is just the (kick) start.
PLEASE HELP SPREAD THE WORD
After pledging your support, please help spread the word about this project by sharing this link with your friends. This project is an investment in our youth, an investment in American manufacturing, and will serve to help bring an old man's vision to reality. We hope you will be the first on your block to grow your own guacamole tree with the Edu-CADO™!
Thank you for your support!
Risks and challenges
This product utilizes a very costly injection mold. Once successfully funded, we intend to order our mold on the very day the Kickstarter funds arrive. Estimates for delivery of the mold is anywhere from 8 to 12 weeks. We would like nothing better than to get this product to our supporters in 2 months or less. But realistically, as Kickstarter wisely states in it’s Creator's Handbook; Under-promise and over-deliver. Please view our "Edu-CADO™ Kickstarter Timeline" graphic, above. We sincerely hope we will surprise you all with an early shipment of rewards. Regardless, we intend to keep everyone updated through our social media sites. So we’re always only a mouse-click away.
The biggest risk to overcome in bringing the Edu-CADO™ to market has been the inevitable risk of failure. Then again, figuring this project has been sitting in the drawer for over 10 years, our biggest challenge has actually been the fear of success. Heaven forbid we might actually meet our funding goal and the big steam engine of commerce roars to life. What if we actually surpass that funding goal and we’re forced to spend 2 or 3 weeks hunkered down in the living room, having a pizza party EVERY night, surrounded by cardboard boxes, shipping labels and lots of packing tape? What a pleasant problem to have, right? Isn’t that the epitome of the American dream? It will mean our company is FINALLY on it’s way to produce even MORE products that have been sitting in a drawer for 30 years, collecting dust. We look to this challenge not as an obstacle, but as an opportunity. And deem the risk, acceptable. With the good people of Kickstarter at our side….we’re ready to take on ANY challenge.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
