About

Dear Backer:

Through the centuries times have changed. Cultures have changed. But the heart of mankind still desires to connect to the story... the way we become kindred spirits with the story and how it drives us forward with resolve, with healing, with compassion, with reverence.

Maya Angelou wrote, “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you". That’s why I created this set of images, which I’ve titled “May I Tell You a Story...”

For many years I’ve had a dream to create a set of images worthy of a fine art book, and to produce that book of images to share with others.

These images are not just my story. They are our story. They’re the story of those who came before us, and of those who will come after us. They’re our children's children's story.

"May I Tell You a Story..." takes you to a past you can only imagine in your mind, the agonies and triumphs of those that came before us... and it records those places – and that time – through my Creator's inspiration and my mind's eye.

Please support my Kickstarter campaign with a pledge of $90 or more so that you may hold in your hands these powerful images...and make this story your story.

Blessings to you and thank you,

Paul

The Stories:

Each image not only tells a visual story, but each image is also accompanied by Paul's interpretation and spiritual compass behind the image and his message to the viewer.

Example Story:

"Ruth"

Reaching out of this beautiful print is a vision of loyalty and honor. Ruth scans the horizon in pensive thought. Bold and steadfast, she stoically awaits the dawning of a new day with all of its hopes and dreams giving her the strength she needs to do what needs to be done.

The Book:

Paul began his career as a designer and visual communicator in 1992. Shortly into his career he began winning awards for his work for international resorts and hotels. At the same time he was experimenting with his love of photography, designing a single edition handmade book which was selected for the Graphis "Book Design, vol2".
Paul has taken those award-winning skills and applied them to personally designing this book, encompassing his creative fingerprint even further.

Endorsements:

"Paul's work parallels the styles of the great painters -- it makes you feel like you're witness to something personal; something greater than yourself."

- Palmer Douglas, Founder Aperture Athletic

There are many who bang the drum loudly. Photographer Paul Ernest quietly creates stunning art, wrapped in meaning, plied with inspired fervor, and with a hushed, gentle nod to his Maker.

Paul reaches beyond mere portrayals. He evokes a subtle, yet deep significance in his work, a gentle harmonic resonance with his subject.

The lyric Roman poet Horace wrote; “A picture is a poem without words.” Paul’s imagery is poetry of the highest order, destined to be a revered part of the fabric of our visual world and time.

I have often referred to Paul’s oeuvre as ‘seriously elegant.’ He is respected and cherished as the gentleman-artist of our time.

- Arthur Levi Rainville, M.Photog., Cr., CPP, API

"Paul’s work has a classic look about it that resounds with one’s personal emotions and brings about much thought into what his images convey.

His attention to detail and the message he conveys in each of his images draws you in and captures your imagination."

-Andy Marcus, Fred Marcus Photography Studios, New York, NY

____________________

"Paul’s work while immediately recognizable yet always progressive brings such deep emotional feel to every image he creates. His dedication to his craft is unparalleled and is one of the most prolific artists I’ve met over the years."

-Jason Groupp, WPPI, Director of Education and Membership

“Once in a rare while does the art and craft of photography come together so seamlessly as it does in the photo illustrations of Paul Ernest. Paul’s skills go well beyond the camera and his vision for the viewer lands at the mid-point between realism and spirituality.”

- Steven I. Rosenbaum

Paul's work is not only beautiful, and a true gift for the eyes to see, but it is also honest. Paul's images have meaning that flow straight from his heart; glimpses of his own life. What makes his work extraordinary is that each and every piece is connected to something greater than this life, and reflects a certain promise of hope and eternity."

With Thanks:

Creating "May I Tell You a Story..." would not have been possible without the support and commitment by certain people in my life, both past and present. I wish to thank my Creator, my wife Marianna, my sons Andrew, Jacob, Nicholas and Noah, my mentor David Edmonson, Tom & Brenda Duke, Nathan Sheets for their unspoken gifts, Kelley Crowder for her beautiful moving images behind the camera, my life coach Phillip Moss, and my dear friends & colleagues Janice Eddington, Stephanie Rippe, and Tony Corbell. There are many people and their sacrifices behind each image... their time, their talents and love. Thank you to the stylists, wardrobe artists, models, assistants, and farmers. I stand in all of these people's shadow.

Life is carried forward by generations through story. Everyone has a story, a journey.

Blessings to you and thank you,

Paul

Risks and challenges

The risk in this project is more of a consequence for me... the consequence that not only will our stories not be told, but the encouragement for future generations to share their story will be at risk. This book is meant to encourage people to tell their own stories.

An observance I see in our world today is the disappearance of omnidirectional communications. What do I mean by "omnidirectional communication"? I tell stories about my faith and my heritage and my goal is to create the message or the "heart" if-you-will in a way that people will invite into their hearts and homes without infringing on their faith or perspective. To me, that is the ultimate form of tolerance... communicate through beauty in a way that we all can find peace in. We are missing that in a very real way in our world.
