Late one night, in a dark, beer-stained basement in the underbelly of Amsterdam, Drink Drank Drunk was conceived as ‘Drinking Jenga’ and ‘Ring of Fire’ were combined and perfect chemistry was scientifically achieved. Unspeakable things occurred and a drink-fused seed was planted...
Throughout his teen years, the basement was a place of refuge for young Felix. Picture a That 70’s Show-esque basement, haphazardly furnished with street-found sofas, decorated with average graffiti, and a recurring cast of friends - including our very own game illustrator, Kim, who dwelled there for many moons! (about 6 months)
The basement was eventually sold and tears were shed, but the memories of that great place remained (some memories more hazy than others). The late nights and drinking games that we made up for our own amusement were at the heart of our time in the basement, and that spirit was something that Felix wanted to capture (in a small and affordable format) and bring to others.
He started out by drawing over 300 cards by pencil on small blank business cards, ending up with… somewhat varied results! After figuring out the different mechanisms of the game (and an initial test run that proved to be “too successful”), Drink Drank Drunk was born! Kind of. Almost. Soon.
While working on the card details with the help of his lovely girlfriend Ylenia, Felix got back in touch with Kim.
“Kim, I need your masterful hands”, he said, “help me make an awesome game more awesome with your illustrations”.
“Yeah, ok”, said Kim.
Felix and Ylenia moved to Berlin last August in order to be closer to Kim and Maria (another basement dweller and card copywriter) in order to combine forces and get everything done. One night in August we found Masha as a unicorn raving in a Berlin forest and she quickly joined the crew, too!
With Kim’s help the cards went from this…
And now you can help us take us further and be a part of the journey that is Drink Drank Drunk the game!
Risks and challenges
The production of the game is simple: “it’s just pieces of paper” as Felix’s brother put it. So, other than building the box, it's a pretty simple product to make.
The real challenge for us would be if you drank us under the table and turned “just one drink” into “we woke up in Kenya riding a zebracorn over a waterfall”.
We’ve been working closely with our manufacturer in Poland to make damned sure that no matter how many people pledge, everyone gets their Drink Drank Drunk game quickly after the campaign ends. No one wants this to be a campaign where you spend the next ten years getting hundreds of emails about production updates, delays and excuses. So! If you back this project, we want to be sure you can start getting Drink Drank Drunk as soon as possible!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
