Ancient Egyptian Funeral Collection
A collection featuring a hinged sarcophagus enamel pin inspired from Egyptian Revival art and ancient artifacts.
This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Sat, June 1 2019 6:59 AM UTC +00:00.
Hi, I'm Jennifer and this is my Ancient Egyptian Funeral Collection.
Featured is the 2” inch tall, matte silver, hinged two piece Osiris-Seker sarcophagus enamel pin/pendant! Chain is not included.
This statement piece is inspired from turn of the century Egyptian Revival jewelry and design.
Drawing from Psusennes I silver sarcophagus and from elements of Seker and Osiris, I wanted to recreate the best representation of merge of two death gods: Osiris, Lord of the Afterlife, and Seker, god of the dead.
Egyptian art and mythology, while thousands of years old, still speaks strongly to us today. The pin is a playful exploration with our morbid fascination with funeral practices and narratives around the afterlife.
Featuring a giant multi-winged scarab, a symbol of death and rebirth, is the perfect companion to the collection. Each bandana will be printed on 22x22 inch 100% cotton with water based ink in my garage print shop.
I designed it so it can serve as a traditional bandana, but also could be used for tarot/card reading, on alters, as furishiki, or whatever other reason you can dream up.

Producing enamel pins are not cheap, especially a two piece hinged pin. With your support, I can actually afford to produce them. To do a run of the sarcophagus pin, I am budgeting about $670 just to have them produced and shipped to me. Add backer shipping costs and a simple backing card for the pin and we are looking at $925 for 100 piece order.
Each of the unlockable designs costs about $150-160 each to produce, not counting shipping. Nephthys already has the mold paid for, so it would be simply paying for the per piece costs which should be around $100 depending on how many are ordered. I am currently down the last dozen of the pins from the initial run back in 2018.
Your pledge will help cover mold costs, printing an initial 100 piece run for Osiris-Seker, shipping from the factory, packaging and shipping your reward to you. It will also cover the costs for ordering, burning the silk screen, and bandana blanks. And if we hit, $2000, I can can double the sarcophagus pin run to 200 pieces.
While there are definitely pros and cons for water-based, I prefer it because of its environmentally friendly aspect (I don't need nasty chemicals to clean the screens after use, unlike using plastisol ink where its imperative), but also its longevity. Water based inks actually dye the fiber its printed so over time the image will soften with the cloth and will never crack or peel off. Also it's punk rock.
Hi, my name is Jennifer and I have been working as an illustrator and designer for nearly 12 years and picked up screen printing in the past 4 years.
Screen printing was a natural divergence as it satisfies my desire to get my hands dirty and to produce product that is both aesthetically pleasing and has an everyday function. Historical art and design, and pop culture seemed like a natural avenue of exploration for my work and especially with androgynous apparel and accessories.

Risks and challenges
While not unfamiliar to anyone who as either been the artist or the backer, there is always a chance for a delay in time-lines: either being printed and/or shipped. In a preemptive move, I have set generous timeline with frequent updates for all backers.
Also because pin quotes are time sensitive, the price could change at the conclusion of the kickstarter. I have incorporated a small buffer encase that happens.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
