Getting Started with 3D Printing seems easy to those already using it but to a beginner, there are so many confusing questions.
What printer to buy on a budget?
What software to use to run it?
How to create 3D designs?
How to send a design to a professional printer?
Those using 3D printers say its easy but they forgot all that they had to learn before it "was easy". What if there was a simple, step by step explanation for learning how to get started before you invest in a 3D printer? That's what this book intends to deliver.
The book shows many of the latest 3D printers that are lower cost and popular. Then the book selects one and takes you through setting it up, choosing the software, creating that first 3D print. Then the book goes further and shows you how to create your own 3D print. Create it from scratch or scan a 2D object and make it 3D. Then the book shows how to send a design to a professional printer for that professional look.
The book focuses on using the Da Vinci 1.0 3D printer and how to get great prints out of this under $500 printer. It's a great first step printer and comes fully assembled and ready to run. You'll have your first print running in less than an hour and this book will show you how.
I launched a YouTube Channel about 3D Printing and learned even more about what new users wanted in a Beginner Style Book. Check out my channel to see what I'm trying to deliver:
I've been able to get amazing quality prints out of a low cost 3D Printer with just a few of the tips and tricks I show in the book.
Even if you are very familiar with 3D printing, this book is a great book for parents, grandparents or anyone who wants to know what 3D printing is and how to get started. It makes a great gift for that curious beginner in your family.
It's an easy read at only 90 pages but covers:Chapter 1 – What is 3D Printing
Chapter 2 – Da Vinci 1.0 Printer
Chapter 3 – First Print
Chapter 4 – Thingiverse
Chapter 5 – Tinkercad Chapter 6 – Scanning a 2D Object Chapter 7 – Sending a Design to a Professional 3D PrinterChapter 8 - Da Vinci 1.0 Printer Tips and TricksChapter 9 – Finishing Off Designs Chapter 10 – Scanning, Dual Heads and Other Printers
I've hired an editor, cover designer and for the first time investing in both a full color and black & white interior not to mention all the other time and money I've already invested just to investigate this topic and get the book ready for print. Eventually I plan to also release a Kindle version. All those steps cost money for a book that may or may not sell. So I'm giving the Kickstarter community first shot at the book at a discount so I can recoup some investment and determine if I should go further with additional costs required to launch this book. Just printing that first set of books is expensive and can become a stack of bound paper if nobody wants to read it. So your support is not only a pre-purchase of a book but also a vote to indicate this type of book is needed.
Please consider supporting this project. Even for only the $1 reward if you don't need or want the book for you. Help me make it easier for everyone to learn how to get started 3D printing.
Risks and challenges
I've written eight books on programming microcontrollers but I've never written a book on 3D printing. This book is a new path for me and I'm trying to measure if there is even interest in this type of book dedicated to beginner's.
I've successfully self-published seven books (first one was through large publisher) so I know how to get this to print, I just need to gain the Kickstarter community support to make this book a reality to help fund the first batch of bound and printed books.
